Job Summary:

For over 30 years, the University of Chicago Consortium on School Research (UChicago Consortium) has informed solutions to the most difficult problems facing urban schools. The UChicago Consortium is committed to better understanding the fundamental practices and conditions that advance student learning, promote attainment, and foster more equitable outcomes. We conduct research of high technical quality that informs policy and practice in the Chicago Public Schools, as well as schools nationwide. A central component of our work is engaging with a diverse set of stakeholders and stimulating evidence-driven discourse about the vital issues facing schools. The UChicago Consortium has been described as the \"gold standard\" for education research-practice partnerships and has been replicated nationally. The UChicago Consortium seeks a dedicated, creative, social, and justice-minded person to serve as a research associate to work alongside our Consortium teams. The research assistant will assist in conducting research for improving practice and policy primarily in CPS and support the development and strengthening of strategic partnerships with stakeholders including: CPS students, families of CPS students, CPS district partners, teachers, school administrators, SROs, and others. This is a great opportunity for a student interested in gaining experience working directly with school stakeholders, developing research and analytical skills, understanding change efforts in large school districts, and being part of a tight-knit, committed team.

Responsibilities:

  • More specifically, the research associate will work with team members and participate in tasks including:
  • Collecting and reviewing qualitative data
  • Providing feedback on team projects and materials
  • Helping to ensure Consortium research is shared, accessible, relevant, and useful for different stakeholder groups
  • Other tasks specific to the needs of the team
  • The research associate will work closely with their supervisor in order to build their skill set in education research. The research associate will also be part of a student cohort at the Consortium. This cohort will enable students to provide insight on what they\'re working on with one another, offer support and advice, and develop their professional relationships

Additional Requirements

Education, Experience, or Certifications:

Education:

  • Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree)

Experience:

  • Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 1 year of work experience or school experience in a related job discipline
