Indian Health Service Utility System Repairer Operator in Chinle, Arizona

Summary The purpose of this position is to maintain, operate, and repair major equipment systems of utility systems, major equipment repair, and building structure that provides services and environmental control for a 60 ambulatory medical-surgical health care facility that includes Many Farms Health Center. This position is located in Chinle Service Unit, Division of Administrative Services, Facilities Management, Chinle, Arizona. Responsibilities This position is being re-announced to solicit additional candidates; applicants who previously applied to this announcement need not reapply unless submitting updated information and/or missing forms. Maintains, operates and repairs equipment of high-pressure hot water boilers (Gas/Oil), high pressure steam boilers (Gas/Oil), hot water heaters, hot water circulating pumps, direct digital controls, emergency generators. Operate and repair auxiliary equipment including vacuum pumps, fuel oil pumps, gas regulators, air compressors, feed water pumps, motors and safety controls. Dismantles, cleans and inspect boilers, repairs refractory and performs other repairs to maintain boilers in safe operating condition. Troubleshoots electrical controls. Uses test equipment electric meter, ohmmeters, capacitor tester, gas detector and flow meter to identify defects; repairs needed or preventative maintenance required. Interprets multiple integrated electric, computer and mechanical system which are closely interrelated and independent systems of the service unit. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: WG-4742-10 Follows oral or written instructions and/or work orders; performing maintenance mechanic duties, including use and apply standard building techniques, practices, and codes, read and understand blueprints, sketches and schematics, read and understand work orders in order to complete assigned work, use and maintain pneumatic hand tools, use and maintain shop tools, drill press, band saw, table saw, etc., follow manufacturer's instructions for use of power tools, follow safety manuals on operation of tools and equipment, follow safety guidelines working with oils and lubricants, working with inert gases and solvents, acids, adhesives, sealants, paints, oils and lubricants while performing maintenance tasks, respond to frequent changes in instructions, with respect to the team, project and/or task adhere to a schedule to perform preventive maintenance work and inspection and maintain complete records of work completed use and maintain a variety of electrical, carpentry, painting and plumbing equipment, hand and motorized. PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Exerts physical effort in stretching such as turning valves, climbing, and working at heights on ladders and catwalks, and working in prone and stooped positions. Works in cramped and confined areas such as interior of boilers and around mechanical equipment located in crawl spaces. MEDICAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be physically able to perform efficiently the duties of the position. WORKING CONDITIONS: The incumbent will work in confined spaces where dust and ashes are present, and will be subject to the heat hazards of boiler bursts, scalding water, and steam and flare back of combustion flames. Works in areas where there is danger of electrical shock and where there may be toxic amounts of gases and caustic or other chemical burns. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education There are no education requirements. Additional Information Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption.
