Eurofins Environment Testing Australia New Zealand is an Environmental testing network of fully accredited laboratories. With a staff of over 200 our laboratories are located in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Auckland and Christchurch, with Client Service Offices located in Adelaide, Darwin, Newcastle and Wollongong. We also operate field sampling services out of Melbourne and Sydney. We specialise in all areas of Environmental analysis, including Contaminated Soil, Sludge, Sediments, Leachate, Soil Vapour, Trade Waste Effluents, Sewage Effluents, Stack Emissions, Work Place Air, Ambient Air, Dust, Drinking Water, Surface Water run off, River & Stream Monitoring, Seawater, and Groundwater. 

We are currently seeking a Laboratory Analyst - ASBESTOS (mid level) to join our Christchurch team on a permanent full time basis. The main focus of this role is to work in our laboratory operations, with a focus on maintaining our site's laboratory accreditations and participating in quality assurance improvements.

Key responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Undertake bulk identification, asbestos in soil analysis (both P/A and S/Q) and fibre counting in the laboratory. 

  • Ensure equipment and compliance systems are maintained in accordance with ISO standard.

  • Adhere to the conditions of ISO17025:2018 at all times.

  • Provide assistant with technical and quality tasks.

  • Act as training mentor for internal staff

  • Participate in internal and third-party proficiency testing programs and ensure satisfactory results are achieved.

Qualifications and experience 

  • Tertiary qualification in Science or equivalent qualification; or equivalent experience.

  • Must have experience analysising asbestos materials - bulk, fibre counting and soil analysis. 

  • At least two year’s laboratory experience; experience in a commercial laboratory will be an advantage.

  • Attention to detail, and proficient computer skills are essential

  • Good knowledge of standard office applications, especially MS Word and MS Excel.

  • Strong commitment to safety and a desire to continually learn and improve

  • Candidates who have previously worked as Key Technical Persons (KTPs) for asbestos analytical methods will be highly regarded. 

  • Candidates who have qualifications/experience asbestos consultants will be highly regarded
