Job Overview As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine is recruiting a full time Research Associate or Senior Research Associate to work in the laboratory of Kristin Hudock, MD, MSTR. This position will conduct basic and translational research in the field of Cystic Fibrosis, acute lung injury and pneumonia. Requires work with mice in vivo, patient samples and human and mouse cells in vitro. Occasional weekend or evening work required.Potential co-authorship opportunities for abstracts and papers. Essential Functions Mouse colony maintenance: Maintain and breed transgenic mouse strains, perform genotyping, treat mice with compounds, collect in vivo samples, and test samples. Coordinate research studies with PI and other lab personnel. Review literature and adapt methods for lab use. Purchase supplies and prepare monthly spending reports. Conduct studies using primary and immortalized cell line tissue cultures, and bacteria. Sample testing via western blot, ELISA, enzyme assays, PCR, qPCR. Collection of DNA, RNA, cDNA proteins. Supervise and mentor students. Analyze and prepare data for presentation. Required Education For Research Associate and Senior Research Associate: Bachelor's Degree required in a related field. Required Experience Research Associate: In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline. May require experience with specialized software programs. - OR - Senior Research Associate: Three years of experience with performing basic procedures on mice required and familiarity with standard molecular biology techniques. Additional Qualifications Considered Knowledge of confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, aseptic tissue culture technique is ideal. Strong interpersonal skills. Moving around the lab and building.
