Description

Job Summary:

Under the direction of an ArborMetrics Solutions (AMS) Supervisor and/or Client, the Planner inspects, prioritizes, documents, and/or audits vegetation management work on customer properties. This field-based position is focused on ensuring compliance with Client contract specifications. Meeting Company and Client objectives in the areas of safety, work quality, productivity, cost-effective vegetation removal, and customer satisfaction are key indicators of success in this position.

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Identify opportunities for improving safety and immediately report incidents, injuries, unsafe working conditions, unsafe work processes, and potential hazards

· Abide by AMS’s Code of Safe Practices, Injury and Illness Prevention Program, Wildfire Preparedness and Prevention Plan, and safe driving principles, practices, and policies

· Abide by, integrate, inspire, positively influence and engage others to apply AMS’s Vision, Mission, Values and Principles (VMVPs) in daily activities and decisions

· Safely operate a motor vehicle for travel to assigned work area (locations vary)

· Inspect and document required work (pruning or removing vegetation) at customer properties

· Resolve customer concerns and complaints related to scheduled trimming/removals and/or completed trimming/removals in a timely manner

· Record associated vegetation work for later trimming and removal by a tree crew on a tablet in the field using specialized software

· Operate system forestry computer programs and record systems

· Communicate regularly and effectively with project leadership, auditors, utility clients, contractors, landowners, and the general public

· Perform duties in a manner that will promote and maintain good public relations

· Perform QA/QC inspections on completed vegetation management work as applicable to the contract

· Participate in storm and emergency response duties as assigned and at client request as applicable to the contract

· Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Skills/Abilities:

· Ability to demonstrate initiative and be results driven

· Must be able to read maps and identify tree species

· Familiarity with tree growth rates, tree response to injury, and hazardous tree conditions

· Must be able to identify required removal and trimming work in accordance with utility maintenance specifications

· Must be able to work alone, outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain

· Must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, strong problem solving and multi-tasking abilities and show attention to detail

· Must be able to adapt to change

· Must have basic computer skills

Education and Experience:

· Associates degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or related discipline preferred (education may be required dependent on client contract

· Prior UVM or directly related experience preferred

· Experience reading maps and judging spatial distances

· Knowledge or practical experience in tree identification

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to represent AMS and its services in a professional and positive manner

· Knowledge of common computer applications and ability to learn new programs

· Valid driver’s license and safe driving record

· ISA Arborist Certification preferred (may be required dependent on client contract)

· Bi-Lingual speaking (English and Spanish) is a plus

· Prior experience with GIS software/technology preferred

· Familiarity with vegetation removal, utility line clearance, and utility vegetation methods and equipment is preferred

Work Environment:

· Work with a team and alone; primarily in an outdoor field environment and/or low light conditions; foot patrol of energy corridors in the vicinity of power lines and/or pipelines; remote locations as well as urban, city environment; physical demands and travel from site to site, including: walking/hiking on various surfaces including flat, dry, wet, slippery, rocky, sandy, uneven, rough, unstable, steep terrain, hills and slopes, dense vegetation; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, and all types of weather extremes including snow, ice, fog, humidity, and low and high temperature conditions; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions, domestic and wild animals, insects, and poisonous plants. Other working conditions may include: in a vehicle or limited time in an indoor office.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

· This is a full-time hourly, non-exempt position

· Must be willing to work overtime as required

· Must be willing to occasionally travel overnight as requested
