Walla Walla Community College is accepting applications to fill the part-time role of Nursing Lab Assistant on the Clarkston Campus.

General Responsibilities:

This position supports the mission of the Nursing Program by assisting the Nursing Faculty Lab Educator in the following areas: maintenance of lab space and equipment, cleaning/disinfecting of lab supplies/equipment, re-stocking of lab supplies, changing linens/monitoring laundry, and preparing the skills lab for use by Nursing and Nursing Assistant students. 

With respect to the larger organization's mission and vision, this position promotes "high quality educational experiences" by preparing a safe Nursing Skills Lab that is well maintained and well stocked for student use. It supports producing a "highly-skilled workforce" by ensuring that equipment needed for nursing skills is available and in safe working condition.   

 

Essential Functions

Prepare the Nursing Skills Lab for nursing student skills labs and simulation activities

  • Assist with the maintenance of the lab space and equipment to ensure a safe, comfortable, and well-lighted practice lab environment
  • Ensure that lab supplies/equipment for nursing skills are used in a correct and safe manner by students
  • Follow faculty directions for lab station set-up, cleaning/disinfecting of lab supplies/equipment, and return of supplies/equipment to storage in an orderly manner
  • Change bed linens as needed, monitor use of laundry and notify Purchasing Dept. for laundry pick-up (or take laundry to a specified location), restock supplies with clean linens
  • Restock lab stations as directed for student practice
  • Monitor sink areas for cleanliness and supplies (soap/paper towels); refill hand sanitizers as needed
  • Assist with optimum access to the lab for student practice time; assist with monitoring of student practice time log
  • Prepare lab as directed for transition to Nursing Assistant lab and testing
  • Maintain effective working relationships with people of varied social, cultural, and educational backgrounds

Assess and replace supply inventory for Nursing Skills Practice Lab

  • Assist lab faculty with inventory, re-ordering, and re-stocking of lab supplies
  • Assist the Nursing Lab Educator with estimating the quantity and quality of supplies and materials needed to provide nursing students to be able to practice with up-to-date, high-quality disposable and non-disposable equipment.

Participate in Nursing and Allied Health department and campus meetings

  • Attend relevant Health Science meetings/updates and college-wide activities as directed.
