Substation Project Engineer

POWER Engineers, Inc. is currently seeking a Substation Project Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Small Utility Service (SUS) Department in our NW (Central Washington) Region. The department focuses on providing Owner Engineer and design services to PUDs, electric cooperatives, small municipalities that serve the public by providing electric utility service. The department includes several employees with past electric cooperative work experience. The department endeavors to have a strong service mindset, and the position provides the opportunity for the applicant to serve the membership and public of electric cooperative and public utility systems.

Roles and Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for successful completion of assigned projects and for maintaining and improving client relationships. Completion of these functions requires technical competence as well as leadership competence in working with clients and mentoring and supervising team members assigned to projects. This role will lead substation engineering project work, including, but not limited to:

  • Develop project work scope documents, budgets, and proposals

  • Complete conceptual design and feasibility studies

  • Prepare construction cost estimates and project schedules

  • Lead engineering design activities

  • Perform substation design checking

  • Support projects during construction

The successful applicant must also demonstrate the following:

  • Strong written/oral communication skills in order to communicate professionally with internal team members and clients

  • Willingness to travel occasionally to client sites or conferences

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering, or equivalent technical education

  • Professional Engineering license (P.E.) or equivalent in the state of Washington, Oregon, or Texas, or ability to achieve P.E. within six (6) months of hire date

  • Seven (7) + years of experience performing physical and electrical substation design

  • Experience preparing project work scope documents and sequence of construction plans for substation projects

  • Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

Desired Education/Experience

  • P.E. in Washington, Oregon, or Texas

  • Experience performing substation design for electric cooperatives, public utility districts, or municipalities

  • Experience working at an electric cooperative, public utility district, or municipality

  • One (1) + years of experience leading substation project design teams

Salary DOE: The pay range for this position is $85k - $125k per year; however, base pay may be higher or lower depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills and experience. This figure does not include additional compensation such as health benefits, vacation, 401k, etc.
