KeyBank NA Associate Counsel - Commercial Real Estate Financing in Cleveland, Ohio

Location: 127 Public Square - Cleveland, Ohio 44114 KeyCorp Legal is seeking a mid-level attorney to support the KeyBank Real Estate Capital (KBREC) team within the Institutional Bank of KeyCorp, a publicly traded bank holding company. KBREC offers a variety of solutions for borrowers seeking to acquire, refinance or develop commercial, healthcare and multifamily properties and provides investment opportunities in the form of commercial real estate debt and equity capital. The ideal candidate will have a combined 3-5 years of commercial real estate financing experience working at a law firm and/or in an in-house legal environment. The position will be based at KeyCorp's headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio and will report to the Senior Vice President and Associate General Counsel overseeing legal support for the Institutional Bank. This is a unique opportunity to become a key internal legal advisor to business teams involved in all facets of commercial real estate financing work. Essential Job Functions With some supervision and oversight, advise and support KeyBank Real Estate Capital business teams, including Key's Community Development Lending and Investment business, on routine legal matters. Specific responsibilities may include: Draft and negotiate legal documents. Perform legal research and provide summaries of findings as required or assigned. Develop an understanding of business and regulatory environment in corporate and investment banking through experience and training opportunities. Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal clients and KeyBank Legal colleagues responsible for covering other functional areas. Actively partners with and oversees outside counsel when needed. Other duties and special projects, as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree, Juris Doctorate, Active State Bar membership. 3-5 years of experience working as an attorney in a law firm and/or in-house legal environment on commercial real estate financings. Excellent analytical, writing and communications skills. Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships within a large organization. Willingness to learn new areas of the law, acquire new skills and take on additional and/or new responsibilities as needed. Intellectual curiosity and strong attention to detail. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and on multiple and varied projects simultaneously Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of Investment Advisers Act of 1940, a plus. Familiarity with debt and equity affordable multi-family transactions and low-income housing tax credits (LIHTC), a plus. Familiarity with real estate-oriented government-sponsored enterprises (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and Federal Housing Administration), a plus.
