The Oracle Database Engineering Manager leads a team that is responsible for providing architecture guidance, driving automation efforts, managing core toolsets, and maximizing the value of database technology investments through a product & platform delivery model. They build and mentor a team of engineers that provide technical direction and deploy modern capabilities to enhance operational efficiency, promote standardization, and drive customer value. Manager will support multiple projects and have a technical hands-on lead as needed. Manager is responsible for developing team members. Manager is responsible for leading team approach to automation and process improvements. An effective Database Engineering Manager will have a broad range of technical knowledge, with an emphasis on traditional relational and emerging database solutions. They will manage a team that supports multiple projects and divisions, as well as provide consultative technical leadership across the organization, from strategic decision making to project planning to governance and oversight. This position will work closely with others to grow their base of knowledge, but also share their knowledge with the business and IT teams via collaborative meetings, documentation, and formal presentations. Essential Functions Strategy & Planning Strong leadership skills with an ability to manage, coach, and develop others to achieve results. Plan and coordinate the evaluation and implementation of new products and improvements to current systems. Establish standards for the technology including identification of appropriate uses for database and supporting toolset features. Identify and evaluate industry trends in database systems and related technologies to serve as a source of information and advice for upper management. Serve as a bridge between highly technical and highly business-focused teams, facilitating understanding and brokering agreements to shared goals through collaboration. Develop methods and processes for integrating different products so they work properly together. Compile and recommend wants/needs for the annual budgeting process in Database technologies and prepare presentation to senior IT management. Determine staffing and skills requirements, and perform succession planning Drive change in alignment with organization strategy. Acquisition & Deployment Provide technical management for multiple project initiatives. Manage technology life-cycle projects including technology evaluation, selection, implementation, support, and retirement/replacement. Provide technical specifications for application enhancements. Participate in application customizations and extensions. Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, tools, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts. Manage and prioritize daily support and project work. Operational Management Perform quality assurance & design review functions for all projects where the technology will be utilized. Work with administrators across diverse functions in a multinational environment to support and improve system efficiency. Provide regular, clear, and consistent communication (written and oral) on the status of projects, issues, and deliverables to representatives from the customer/vendor. Establish and calculate optimum values for database parameters and configurations. Work with vendor technical support to facilitate analysis of and resolution to technical issues.
