Case Western Reserve University HR Specialist - Events and Employment in Cleveland, Ohio

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Working under moderate supervision, the human resource (HR) specialist for events and employment will work in the Professional Development Center (PDC) and serve as the event coordinator of large university-wide engagement and recognition events hosted by Human Resources. The HR Specialist will work with the committee, coordinate logistics, and manage volunteer support for the successful execution of the events. 

The individual will also serve as an employment specialist responsible for assisting hiring supervisors with their staffing needs and delivering all facets of employment success for assigned areas.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Engagement and Recognition Duties for the Professional Development Center (50%)

  1. Coordinate logistics and manage volunteer support for the successful execution of large university-wide engagement and recognition events such as the annual Staff Service Awards, Employee Appreciation Day, and Party on the Quad to support a university culture of employee recognition and engagement. Partner with the PDC team, HR event committee, and Staff Advisory Council (SAC) Recognition Committee on planning these events. Provide complete event management services that includes program management, design, catering, set-up/load-out, staffing, communications/scripts, background materials, etc. Ensure all events remain within established budget. (35%)
  2. Benchmark recognition and engagement initiatives, monitor trends, and provide feedback to the committee on suggested design improvements for engagement and recognition initiatives each September. Draft internal procedures for the events and update annually. (6%)
  3. Partner with HR Directors to provide assistance with other HR events and trainings, such as the Wellness Department providing behind the scenes and day-of assistance at flu shot clinics and other wellness events and offering, the Employee Relations Office at Employee Assistance Program (EAP) events, HRA events, and other trainings, the Employment Office for local and virtual career fairs, and the Benefits Office at the annual Benefits Fair. (5%)
  4. Create content and maintain the Professional Development, Employee Recognition and Engagement website. (2%)
  5. Attend the monthly Staff Advisory Council (SAC) Staff Recognition Committee meetings as the HR liaison and provide summary to the PDC and/or HR leadership. (2%)

Employment Specialist Duties (50%)

  1. Provide guidance and advise hiring managers on employment-related matters, including interpretation of HR policies and procedures, affirmative action, interviewing, and employment laws. Meet with hiring managers to discuss open positions and follow up regarding their progress. Participate in and/or conduct interviews when requested. Provide external resources to hiring managers for department¿s recruiting, outreach and advertising, including cost. (15%)
  2. Review and analyze candidates¿ qualifications against job requirements to ensure candidates meet the minimum qualifications. Verify that internal applicants are eligible to transfer per university policy and supervisor has interviewed all qualified, eligible internal applicants. Ensure supervisor has entered all pertinent applicant dispositions and interview data in the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) eRecruit. (17%)
  3. Perform reference and background checks{rel="nofollow"} for potential employees. Negotiate employment offers. Prepare and deliver offer packages and provide orientation details and paperwork. Ensure a smooth hiring process for new staff employees and a seamless transition for transferring employees. (18%)
