Job ID 12405 Location Case Main Campus Full/Part Time Full-Time Regular/Temporary Regular Job Description POSITION OBJECTIVE Working independently and under general direction, the Project Coordinator will provide project support, community and participant engagement, and technical support for two nutrition research projects. The Nourish study aims to pilot a culinary nutrition education intervention and its corresponding evaluation components to evaluate their feasibility. The study will engage participants in the redesign of the intervention upon thorough completion. Nourish curriculum strives to empower home cooks through stress reduction within food and nutrition strategies, including improvisational cooking and resource management. MealSim studies the effect of food waste reduction strategies and identifies factors that influence the development and sustainability of strategies implemented in four public school districts across a two-year, multi-site initiative. MealSim aims to assess the effectiveness of food waste prevention interventions in K-12 public schools; identify and describe the strategies used to implement food waste reduction interventions; and identify and describe key contextual factors that influence intervention effectiveness an implementation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Coordinate the implementation of culinary education activities/classes for the Nourish intervention. Order supplies, schedule space in external teaching kitchens, and schedule staff. (30%) Recruit, engage, and retain research participants for the Nourish intervention and coordinate participant incentives. (25%) Provide technical assistance and support to student workers on the Nourish intervention. Utilize public health nutrition knowledge and understanding of the research protocol to answer student questions about the intervention and troubleshoot issues that arise. (15%) Participate in and coordinate revision of Nourish intervention's educational materials in collaboration with community participants and student workers. Make edits to some curriculum lesson plans and educational materials, and assign some materials to be edited by students. Submit all edits to the principal investigator for approval. (15%) Collect data in Chicago, IL (i.e. conduct school cafeteria observations) for the MealSim project 4 times per year. Observe child behavior and the school meal environment using research protocol. Monitor and document child time use (time spent in lunch line, time spent eating) and count the number of children who are still eating lunch at various time intervals throughout each meal period. In addition, document various aspects of the school cafeteria environment (number of vending machines, water fountains, etc.). (10%) NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Attend relevant meetings and trainings, adhere to deadlines, and participate as a vital member of the research team. Serve as a preceptor to interns, as needed. (5%) Perform other duties as assigned. ( CONTACTS Department: Frequent contact with Nourish and MealSim project investigators and staff to collaborate on projects and gain feedback. External: Frequent contact with student workers from multiple external universities assisting with projects. University: Regular contact with principal investigators and faculty, especially within School of Medicine to exchange project information. Students: Frequent contact with student workers and interns from multiple universities involved with the Nourish and MealSim projects. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY This position has no direct supervision of staff employees. Will assist in training new staff and student team members and will direct student work.
