MetroHealth ProMedica Medical Director - Western Region MD in CLEVELAND, Ohio
Collaborates with the Metro Life Flight Medical Direction Physician(s), providing a unified and positive approach to Medical Direction. The medical director’s primary mission is focused on ensuring the highest standard of patient care achieved, through various administrative tasks including but not limited to crew education, protocol development, and quality improvement. Upholds the mission, vision, values, patient care, and customer service standards of Metro Life Flight and The MetroHealth System.
Responsibilities:
- Reporting expectations
a. Reports to the System Medical Director on Medical Direction duties.
b. Reports to MetroHealth Prehospital Division Director on operational duties, scheduling/timekeeping, reimbursement, etc.
- Administrative time commitment
- a.16 hours a month are dedicated to Metro Life Flight/ProMedica Air Medical Direction duties.
- On call Medical Direction
a. Completes Medical Direction Call as Assigned: Average approximately 1 week every 6 weeks.
b. During Call Week: Maintains 24/7 availability by phone to provide online medical direction to ProMedica Air and MetroHealth EMS agencies.
- Educational Duties
a. Attends one crew competency / education / sim days per quarter. (8 hours)
b. Develop and provides educational didactics.
c. Develops/proctors simulation and procedural competencies.
d. Provides ongoing education to crews.
- Committee Involvement Metro Life Flight / ProMedica Air
a. Assigned as Lead Physician to one of the MLF/ProMedica Air Committee (Quality, Safety, Or Education).
b. Attends Joint Monthly Meeting of assigned committee.
c. Assists the Assigned Committee Chair by providing medical direction, leadership, mentoring, and ensuring the committee achieves it goals.
- Meeting Attendance
a. Maintains consistent weekly availability to attend scheduled standing meetings with Medical Direction Team, ProMedica Air Operations Manager, and Prehospital Division Director.
b. Attends assigned committee meeting.
c. Attends additional meetings as requested.
- Other Administrative Duties
a. Complete Chart Review as assigned.
b. Complete Utilization Review as assigned.
c. Supervise and further develop resident flight physician elective rotation.
d. Assist in annual protocol or policy creation and review.
- Clinical Flight Shifts
a. Maintains concurrent PRN Flight Physician position at Metro Life Flight / ProMedica Air
b. Note: PRN flight physician shifts are in addition to the Medical Direction Position.

- Professional Development
a. Remains current with critical care transport medicine best practices and completes continuing education related to transport medicine annually.
b. Provides education at the local, regional, state, or national level.
c. Identifies personal learning needs. Sets learning goals and actively pursues required knowledge and skills.
d. Actively participates in research projects related to critical care transport medicine.
e. Evaluates and analyzes research that is available in the literature for possible integration into daily practice in support of evidence-based medicine.
- Complies with the Metro Health System Code of Ethical Conduct and applicable laws.

b. Ensures that compliance is maintained with all applicable regulatory agencies.
c. Ensures that care is at a minimum consistent with national standards and those of relevant organizations such as AMPA, NAEMSP, ACEP, and CAMTS.
- Contributes to patient safety by
a. Providing a safe environment for patients.
b. Reporting safety concerns, errors, and near misses.
c. Reviewing safety events and developing mitigation processes.
- Performs other functionally related duties/roles as assigned.
Required Qualifications
MD/DO from an accredited medical school.
Current physician licensure in the state of Ohio.
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine.
Clinical practice experience after residency.
Emergency Medical Services Experience.
Preferred
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medical Services subspecialty.
