Description:
Position Purpose
Performs basic laboratory procedures under the supervision of Registered Technologists and Technicians. Responsible for the collection of specimens for testing including blood samples urine drug screens. Works under supervision of Section Head or Laboratory Manager. Laboratory Assistant will be required to travel to other sites off campus to provide phlebotomy services. Age of patients range from newborn to geriatric.
What You Will Do
Performs receptionist duties including incoming and outgoing calls, greeting outpatients, computer data entry.
Takes physician orders ensuring completeness of information for proper billing to Medicare and third party payers.
Uses Caremedic and other tools to determine necessity with knowledge of ICD9 and CPT codes.
Works with Laboratory Director, Business Office, and Medical Records to assure all documentation for accuracy of patient records.
Collects and handles specimens for testing including blood samples urine drug screens.
Demonstrates the proper use, care, and maintenance of laboratory equipment, tools, materials, and supplies.
Obtains appropriate specimen promptly which allows for accurate test results ensuring proper treatment.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduate or the equivalent.
Training at an approved school for phlebotomy or medical assistant preferred.
Must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills in a Windows environment.
Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
