Snowflake Inc. Principal Software Engineer - Observability in Clyde Hill, Washington

The Observability team at Snowflake is in charge of building an extensible, self-service Observability platform that reliably collects and serves telemetry data such as metrics, logs, traces/profiles to users within Snowflake. When developing these solutions, we think about the problem end-to-end: how do we collect data from different stacks across Snowflake reliably, how do we store it efficiently, how do we present this information to the user, what actions do we take on the insights from the data? AS A PRINCIPAL ENGINEER IN OBSERVABILITY, YOU WILL: Work with the senior engineering leaders to define the direction and strategy of the Observability platform Lead the efforts to evolve the platform and the roadmap to implement it Communicate and evangelize the observability strategy and best practices to the rest of the company Mentor and grow more junior engineers and tech leads in the team OUR IDEAL PRINCIPAL ENGINEER WILL HAVE: 15+ years industry experience designing, building and supporting distributed systems and large-scale data processing systems in production Outstanding leadership capabilities, with the ability to build a positive, collaborative, and technically-focused team environment Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate with internal customers and establish solid, collaborative partnerships with engineers, non-technical team members, and executives Written skills are key to success in working with our distributed teams BONUS POINTS FOR EXPERIENCE WITH THE FOLLOWING: Extensive experience in a technical leadership role with at least one of the pillars of observability: Logs, Metrics, Traces, Profiling etc Experience with cloud infrastructure - AWS, Azure or Google Cloud. Contributions to any of these are welcome: OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, OpenTracing, CNCF, etc Every Snowflake employee is expected to follow the company's confidentiality and security standards for handling sensitive data. The following represents the expected range of compensation for this role: The estimated base salary range for this role is $235,000 - $368,000. Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Snowflake's bonus and equity plan. The successful candidate's starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
