Fisheries Technician, Kootenai River Resident Fish Mitigation Project

Job Introduction:
The Kootenai River Resident Fish Mitigation team is seeking a Fisheries Technician to assist with field surveys for Kootenai River White Sturgeon research and monitoring. These non-benefited positions will run from approximately April 15th through Sept 15.
General Information:
These positions will involve a combination of field and lab work. The incumbents will work as part of a field crew conducting research and monitoring for Kootenai River White Sturgeon. The incumbents must be able to, with or without reasonable accommodations, work outdoors in inclement weather, trailer and operate jet boats, handle dead or living fish, work weekends, holidays, and nights as needed, and occasionally stay overnight in remote areas. Job duties may require travel to Canada. Housing is provided at the McArthur Lake field station.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities for this position include conducting setline, gillnet, angling, egg mat, and larval surveys for White Sturgeon in the Kootenai River. In addition, the incumbents will assist with maintaining and downloading acoustic telemetry receivers. The incumbent will assist with the maintenance of field equipment, including large jet boats and trailers, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills Needed:
Applicants must be able to accurately collect data following set protocols, effectively work as a team member in the field, or work independently, and interact with the public in a professional and courteous manner. Work hours are variable; typically 40 hours per week, but can be more for short periods. Experience using MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Access are all a plus. Education and professional experience in fisheries or natural resource management are preferred. Applicants must possess a valid drivers license. This position may include occasional travel to Canada, for which a valid passport is required for entry/reentry into bothCanada and the U.S., along with other legal requirements for entry/re-entry into Canada and the U.S.
