Job Title: Part-Time Cook FLSA Status: Part Time - non-exempt Reports to: Colorado Springs Corps Kitchen Coordinator Rate of Pay: $17/hour Closing Date: 1/12/2025 Benefits: Standard; Part-Time, Non-Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following: Sick leave benefit - 1 day per month, 12 sick days per year (accrual and availability begins at hire; sick time accrual is pro-rated for part-time hours Vacation benefit - 10 vacation days per year, accrued at the rate of .0385 hours for each hour worked, excluding overtime (accrual begins at hire but may not be used until the completion of six months of employment; vacation accrual is pro-rated for part time hours.) Pension Plan (after one year of continuous service) with at least 21 hours worked per week. Scope of Position/Essential Functions: Responsible for the entire meal preparation, set up and cleanup of meals for Seniors/Community, Soup Run and RJMC Shelter. Maintain excellence in customer service while communicating with volunteers. Have ultimate responsibility of making sure kitchen, walk-in frig, and freezer, dry storage, and canteen are cleaned, and stocked on a regular basis. Assure meat and other donations are sorted and bagged for distribution. Have knowledge of health department rules and regulations and assure compliance is met. Education and Work Experience: High School Diploma or GED Must hold a food card certification to meet Health Department standards for a licensed food service kitchen. Experience in institutionalized cooking. Organizational skills and ability are a must regarding health department standards. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Ability to work independently with little or no supervision. Ability to read, interpret and follow recipes. Ability to plan balanced menu utilizing as many GIK as possible. Ability to work with a diverse population in a professional manner. Ability to motivate, encourage and supervise volunteers. Must have a valid Colorado Driver's license and show proof of insurance and pass all Salvation Army driving tests and background checks. Must hold current food certification. Software-related skills: Microsoft Word and Excel required. Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training.
Essential Job Duties: Responsible for the entire meal preparation, set up and clean up for senior/community meals, soup run and RJMC. Assure that Soup Run Canteen is stocked daily, prepared for Soup Run and cleaned on a regular basis. Responsible for making sure kitchen is clean and health standards are met. Have knowledge of health code standards and regulations; assure compliance. Keep refrigerator and freezer clean, organized, food rotated, labeled, etc. Keep dry storage organized, items rotated. Supervise volunteers in food service functions related to set up, cooking and clean up for the weekday lunches for the seniors; meal preparation for the RJ Center and the Soup Run Monday through Friday Must adhere to all health code regulations and reporting. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, dining room, food delivery canteen. Train and supervise kitchen personnel on proper cooking techniques in the preparation of meals, food safety, work safety and kitchen sanitation. Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure that volunteers and community service workers complete their hours and have the necessary paperwork. Assist with preparation and service of meals independently as needed or required. Work with SAWA for menu planning of monthly meeting and special events. Cross train as Colorado Kitchen Coordinator to be able to fill in during their absence. Must be 21 years of age to drive and hold a Colorado State Drivers License.
