Job Description :

The Software Business Leader at L3Harris plays a crucial role in steering a team of proficient software engineers and supervisors to create sophisticated engineering solutions. This leader must have a profound grasp of the principles of software engineering and be skilled in both development and testing practices. The position involves ensuring that staffing levels are optimized to meet business goals and developing programs within the company's policy framework. The Software Business Discipline Leader offers technical guidance and support across various departments, fostering significant enhancements in processes, systems, or products, and overseeing the execution of strategic initiatives.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead reviews of engineering pursuit products and participate in TBR (Technical Baseline Review) and PCR (Pricing Cost Review).

  • Ensure discipline support success by embedding in business units and understanding their drivers.

  • Work closely with Chief Engineers and business leaders to define staffing demands and communicate with discipline Engineering Managers.

  • Lead technical reviews and provide technical insights, identifying SMEs (Subject matter experts) for additional support.

  • Tailor engineering processes to improve business outcomes and drive quality improvements.

  • Drive down contributions to cost of poor quality, support RCCAs (root cause corrective action) plans, review and attain approval at ECARB (engineering corrective action review boards) and identify e3 (Excellence, everywhere, every day) projects.

  • Act as a liaison between business and engineering disciplines, communicating status, strategy, and upcoming needs.

  • Drive technology advancements to enhance business competitiveness and provide input to strategic planning.

  • Contribute to strategic planning and resource allocation, collaborating closely with Business Development, Program Management, and Business Leadership teams.

  • Use a proactive stance on technology, with the leader keeping up to date with emerging trends to pinpoint opportunities for inclusion in Internal Research and Development (IRAD) projects.

  • Nurture a culture of enduring excellence and innovation, ensuring that the engineering discipline remains in sync with the dynamic needs of the business.

  • Deliver continuous improvement and sustained excellence for self and team members – Lean Six Sigma, data-based decision making, software performance metrics.

  • Clearly and succinctly convey information and ideas, including strong executive communication and presentation skills.

  • Physical Requirements (such as ability to lift up to 10 lbs.)

  • Up to 10% travel may be required

    Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret or TS/SCI DoD clearance

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience in leading/managing technical programs. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.

  • Experience leading full software lifecycle development, including executing performance appraisals, managing staffing allocation, software process leadership (CMMI), and career development.

  • Experience with Waterfall, Agile, TDD (Test driven development), and Model Based development

  • Experience with DevOps and a proven track record building a CI/CD pipeline

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Active TS/SCI Clearance.

  • Exceptional executive communication and presentation abilities are critical, as is the capacity to influence others and promote ongoing improvement within the team at the strategic and tactical level.

  • Proven leadership skills and a history of achieving tangible outcomes. Experience as a software lead on a program.

  • 8+ years of experience in software development (knowledge of Java, C/C++, React, or TypeScript is a plus).

  • Self-starter; problem solver; customer focused.

  • Control Account Management (CAM) experience.

  • Certified SCRUM Master, Product Owner, or Coach.

  • Excellent people skills, with experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.

In compliance with Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the salary range for this role in Colorado is $135,000 - $251,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements
