Job Description: Sigmatech is seeking a dedicated and skilled System Administrator to oversee and enhance the National Security Space Institute’s (NSSI) Information Technology (IT) infrastructure. The ideal candidate will ensure the reliability, security, and performance of our systems through effective setup, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting. This role is crucial for supporting IT operations and maintaining business continuity. Job responsibilities for this position include:

  • Advanced Network Administration: Design, implement, and maintain complex network architectures, including LAN, WAN, and VPN solutions. Configure and manage network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and access points. Troubleshoot and resolve high-level network issues to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

  • System Design, Setup and Configuration: Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, software, and hardware components. Establish system parameters, user accounts, and network settings tailored to organizational needs.

  • System Maintenance and Upgrades: Apply operating system and software patches to address vulnerabilities and improve performance. Plan and implement system upgrades to ensure current technology and features are utilized.

  • Monitoring and Performance Management: Continuously monitor system performance, including CPU, memory, and disk usage. Optimize system performance through configuration adjustments and efficient resource management.

  • Security Management: Implement and manage user access controls, including permissions, authentication, and authorization. Apply security patches and updates to protect systems from vulnerabilities. Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and address risks.

  • Backup and Recovery: Develop and maintain backup procedures for critical data and system configurations. Create and test disaster recovery plans to ensure effective recovery in case of failures.

  • Troubleshooting and Support: Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues reported by users. Provide technical support and guidance to end users for system-related inquiries.

  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. Generate and review reports on system performance, incidents, and security events.

  • User Management: Manage user accounts, including creation, modification, and deletion.

  • Assist with onboarding new employees and offboarding departing ones, including account setup and deactivation.

  • Network Administration: Configure and maintain network settings, including IP addresses, DNS, and DHCP. Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues to ensure network reliability.

  • System Integration: Support the integration of new systems and technologies with existing infrastructure. Ensure compatibility of new software and hardware with current systems.

  • Compliance and Standards: Ensure adherence to organizational policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. Implement IT best practices to maintain system stability and security.

  • Automation and Scripting: Develop and deploy scripts and automation tools to streamline routine tasks. Use scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) to enhance administrative efficiency.

  • Capacity Planning: Monitor and manage system resources to meet current and future needs. Plan for scalability and system expansion to accommodate growth and increased demand.

  • Vendor and Contract Management: Manage relationships with vendors for hardware, software, and service support. Oversee warranties and service contracts and assist with procurement of new equipment.

  • Project Management: Participate in IT projects, including system implementations, upgrades, and migrations. Collaborate with IT staff and other departments to ensure successful project execution and integration.

Required Experience:

Experience and Skills

  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in operating systems (e.g., Windows, Red Hat, Linux), VMware (virtualization), networking, and hardware.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

  • Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with end users and documenting issues.

  • Security Awareness: Understanding of security best practices and tools.

  • Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)) are advantageous.

Compliance: Intermediate Proficiency Level per DoD 8140 Qualification Matrix.

Education: A BS degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, or Computer Science, from an Accredited Board for Engineering and Technology accredited or Centers of Academic Excellence designated institution. Bachelor's Degree in related field (Master's preferred).

Experience: 5+ years of experience in network operations or a similar role. Experience with network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, and monitoring tools.

Personnel Certification: A+ or CND or Network+ and Cloud+ or GICSP or SSCP or Security+ or GSEC; FITSP-O or GFACT or CASP+ or CCNP Security or CCSP

Security Clearance: Secret required

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry network equipment (up to 50 lbs.) as needed.

  • Ability to work in a data center environment with exposure to various network hardware and systems.

In compliance with Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the salary range for this role is $90,000 to $110,000; however, Sigmatech considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, experience, education/training, key skills, location, and often contractual requirements.
