Talen Energy Maintenance Team Leader (Instruments) in Colstrip, Montana

POSITION OVERVIEW

Decisions are guided by policies, procedures, and business plan. This position receives guidance and oversight from manager. Typically, does not perform the work being supervised. Coordinates and supervises the daily activities of craft employees to ensure work is being carried out in a safe and efficient manner, abides by the collective bargaining agreements, follows area direction, follows work standards, and provides training and safety direction and guidance to crew members. Accountable for scheduling, monitoring, and directing of maintenance work tasks, job and employee performance and overall work execution work crews.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, direct and/or assist with the management of the maintenance crews, ensures, and promote a safety conscience work environment, manage and abide by the terms of the collective bargaining agreements communicate and support the technical and business directions of the organization including Business Plans, equipment strategies and business rules.

  • Evaluates the crew backlog and equipment history for the purpose of scheduling future work, trends crew performance and job performance improvements. Evaluates human error events and safety incident root cause to better understand and prevent future events.

  • Work with appropriate work coordinator to develop an achievable a workable schedule, communicate when a job requires further job planning and update progress as required, support documentation for job completion.

  • Assist in the development of Job Safety Analysis, Work Plans, and equipment and area work strategies in support of safety and the Reliability Base Production model. Participate, contribute and support various work groups, committees and teams within the organizations such as: JATC, S&H committee, People safety, Site Wide Safety Committee, and Joint Labor Management committee. Assist in the coordination and execution of Safety walkdowns, and Safety Audits.

  • Supervise craft employees to provide high quality product and service for our customers, monitor work progress of the craft to completion of job assignments, communicate and follow through on the needs and concerns of employees. Communicate the employees concerns to the appropriate department or manager. Reinforce policies and take appropriate actions. Administer requirements such a performance evaluation, discipline, time tickets, and flex leave approvals.

  • Forecast and schedule tasks and resources for daily work, annual overhauls, planned and forced outages and projects to ensure quality and timeliness in accordance with the plan and priorities.

  • Sets priorities to ensure task completion and coordinates work activities with other supervisors.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in closely related field or 7 years of equivalent experience in instrumentation field

  • 5 years’ experience in maintenance, operation or engineering experience in large fossil generating units, specifically in instrumentation field

  • Supervisory experience (may be either direct supervision, back up supervision, project leader, or CBA leadman experience).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Broad understanding of power plant systems and equipment for instrumentation, operations and maintenance processes

  • Good understanding of collective bargaining agreements, knowledge of CSES safety procedures and work practices

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work well with individuals on all levels of the organization

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Must possess mobility to work in:

  • Standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail, despite interruptions, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen for long period of time. Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone.

Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the plant facilities, including the ability to walk on even and uneven surfaces and the ability to walk up and down stairs throughout the facilities.

When at a plant site, noise levels are moderately loud and may vary in various areas of the plant site.

When working in an office setting, the noise level is usually quiet.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Must have manual dexterity and ability to manipulate keyboards.

Must be willing to travel in- and out-of-state periodically as needed

Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills, read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve complex problems, observe and interpret situations, use math and mathematical reasoning; deal with changing, intensive deadlines, and interact with internal and external clients. Must be able to concentrate while under time constraints.
