Description of Work

This position will be located at the Bridge Maintenance Office in Whiteville / Columbus County. This position performs technical duties supporting engineers and other professionals in areas such as construction, materials testing, design, surveys and/or program and regulatory compliance. Work functions may include inspection for compliance and/or code, collection, and analysis of field data, testing of materials, review, medication and/or design of plans, analysis of engineering related data, products and/or functions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Considerable knowledge / understanding of NCDOT concepts, practices, and theories used in highway construction.

  • Experience in maintaining detailed records and reports.

  • Experience in the use of computers and computer software.

  • Knowledge of contract administration to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with the department specifications, standard drawings, and policies.

  • Proficiency in mathematical functions, including algebra, geometry, & trigonometry.

Additional Expectations:

Must be able to legally drive a state vehicle.

Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.

Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
