Pharmacy Intern - Outpatient/Ambulatory Pharmacy Requisition ID 2024-52811 Category Allied Health Overview Pharmacy Intern - Outpatient/Ambulatory Pharmacy The Outpatient/Ambulatory Pharmacy Intern position exists to allow for the growth, development, and education of students enrolled in a college of pharmacy. The interns further the mission of the pharmacy department by caring for patients, while enhancing their educational experience, and developing good customer service skills. Demonstrates competency in providing age-appropriate care to patients from the age of birth through 21 years, and select adult patients. This position is for The Ohio State University - College of Pharmacy students only Schedule: (Contingent, Non-Benefits Eligible) - Hours during school year: Average 12 hours/week; 5-6 hour shifts during weekdays in the evenings. Responsibilities Accepts prescriptions, establishes billing/patient charge, documents patient's allergies correctly, interprets and enters outpatient prescription into the computer Prepares and packages injectables and oral medication for outpatient use Utilizes math and problem solving skills (i.e. algebra) to calculate amount of drug needed for preparation of prescriptions Dispenses medication and counsels caregivers on the medication. Manages dispensing information through the computer system including the patient's profiles. Reviews patient's profiles before dispensing medication for possible medication complications and takes appropriate action to correct problems. Complies with OBRA-90 regulations Provides drug information to health care professionals, patients and parents; instructs patient/parent on correct use of self-administered medications Maintains drug records required by Federal, State, and Local authorities Extemporaneously compounds medications which are not commercially available (i.e. suspensions, ointments, etc.) for both inpatient and outpatient use Replenishes pharmacy stock area and notifies pharmacist
