Definition
Under direction, is responsible for supervising multiple crews engaged in the maintenance and construction of water distribution lines, valves, and hydrants; performs related duties as required.
Examples of Work

Supervises the activities of employees engaged in the maintenance and construction of water distribution lines, valves, and hydrants to include conducting performance evaluations and/or initiating disciplinary actions;
Makes initial on site job inspections in order to determine the work to be done and the equipment/supplies needed for repairs;
Inspects ongoing and completed work performed by crews for conformance to established procedures;
Initiates, opens, and closes work orders and work requests in the computerized maintenance management system;
Turns valves on or off in preparation for the repair of water lines;
Ensures that safety procedures are followed by the crews;
Directs water distribution line, valve, and hydrant maintenance or construction including all restoration relative to the work by providing direction to Water Maintenance Supervisor I’s;
Drives non-commercial vehicles to transport materials and workers to worksites;
Enforces established management policies, taking corrective actions when necessary;
Speaks with property owners about complaints and offers suggestions to resolve property owners’ issues or to redirect to another City department for assistance;
Verifies daily reports and job-related data is entered into the computerized maintenance system by Water Maintenance Supervisor I’s;
Prepares reports on repairs completed and material used during the project;
Identifies leak or damage location in order to make necessary repairs;
Coordinates with contractors to effect repairs;
Coordinates with consumers when water service is to be shut off for servicing or relocation of water lines.
Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years of experience supervising and participating in the installation and maintenance of water distribution lines.
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.

The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create aNEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list for this classification. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. The examination process will consist of a computerized exam weighted 100% covering Supervision (open-book), Reading Comprehension, Logic and Reasoning, Map Reading, Information Ordering, Safety, Reading Water Atlases, Water Maintenance, and 2016/2019 Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.
All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
