SUMMARY
The position of Estimator is responsible for costing and processing of customer quotes on a timely basis for the Automation Department. This role reports to the General Manager, Automation, and is a key role within the department

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Creating layouts/concepts in CAD for the purpose of estimating that reflects the specific customer design requests
Works closely with Sales team in developing quotes that will result in profitable orders.
Preparing timely estimates of costs of materials, labour, and equipment for manufacturing projects, based on supplied drawings and customer specifications
Familiar with all processes in the plant to ensure accurate quoting is performed.
Reviews and makes layout revisions and process changes to pricing based on new information
Negotiating project costs as it relates to machining services, vendor, and/or subcontractors
Ability to communicate technical aspects of automation concept/design to sales and engineering teams
Work cross-functionally with sales, engineering, manufacturing, planning, scheduling, and supply chain to identify and resolve manufacturing and costing issues.
Key member of the P.C.M.S review meetings to ensure financial targets are achievable.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
Post-Secondary education – Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Degree/Diploma preferred
Must have minimum 5 years’ recent experience in an estimating role within the industrial equipment, automation and controls systems industries.
Experience in thin wall, closure and/or other custom injection molds.
Exposure to machining practices, process planning and sub-contracting experience for quoting
Strong understanding of business concepts; gross margins, currency conversion, job costing.
Intermediate to advanced level competency with MS Excel
Experience with ERP implementation is highly desirable. Microsoft Dynamics 365 an asset
Experience with PLM software and Solidworks PDM an asset
Familiarity with injection molding machines, tooling and processes is an asset.
