Position Title: Director of Adult Education

Reports To: Vice President for Academic Affairs

Type of Contract: Administrative Support

Length of Contract: 10 months

Date of Position Description: October 2024

GENERAL NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION:

The Director of Adult Education (ESL, GED, Life Skills, and more) will be responsible for overseeing

and developing programs focused on English as a Second Language (ESL), General Education

Development (GED), life skills, and other adult education initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a

passion for education, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse adult

learners. A bachelors degree in Education, Adult Learning, or a related field required, masters

preferred. The essential functions of this position include: (1) strong leadership and team management

skills, (2) excellent communication and interpersonal skills, (3) ability to work with diverse populations

and address the unique needs of adult learners, and (4) proficiency in using educational technology and

online learning platforms.

RESPONSIBILITES:

The Director of Adult Education, under the supervision of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, will:

Program Development and Management:

o Design, implement, and evaluate adult education programs including ESL, GED, life /job

skills courses including AO-K and IET courses.

o Ensure programs meet the needs of adult learners and align with KBOR educational

standards and best practices (CCRS, STAR, etc.).

o Develop curriculum and instructional materials.

o Teach classes as needed.

Staff Supervision and Support / Professional Development:

o Recruit, train, and supervise instructors and support staff.

o Guide all staff to complete all KBOR required trainings

o Attend Program Leaders Meetings, & KAEA & COABE Conferences

o Provide /share ongoing professional development opportunities and support for staff.

Track and document professional development completed by all staff.

o Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.

Student Support and Engagement:

o Answer and return inquiries from potential students and provide student orientations for

each of four class sessions.

o Assess student needs with pretesting and post-testing then help develop individual

learning plans as needed

o Assist students with computer activities (Aztec, Stand Out, O*Net, etc).

o Provide guidance and support to students throughout their educational journey assist

with test registration and transition services.

o Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment - practice effective retention

strategies

Community Outreach and Partnerships:

o Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, employers, and other

stakeholders keep a contacts log.

o Promote partner programs and services to potential students & make referrals.

o Organize and/or participate in community events and outreach activities.

Administrative Duties:

o Create and manage program budgets and resources effectively. Follow college fiscal

procedures & prepare documentation for the college auditors.

o Submit Adult Ed payroll to the Human Resources Assistance monthly by the 1st

o Enter student data on the KBOR database

o Maintain accurate records and prepare all KBOR required reports on program activities,

outcomes, and budget, etc..

o Ensure compliance with funding requirements and regulations.

o Write the grant applications

o Report to the VP of Academic Affairs

Attend workshops and/or seminars (overnight travel may be required);

Interact cordially with coworkers to accomplish common tasks, and

Cloud County Community College offers a complete benefits package to all full-time

administrative personnel including:
