System Administrator

\$50,000.00/Yr.

Position Summary

Provides accurate, timely support and creative solutions to server administration, end user application issues, video conferencing systems, and data backup systems. Responsible for configuration, testing, documentation, and maintenance of physical and virtual servers, applications, and backup systems. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Responds to complex and specialized product requests from users by analyzing needs, evaluating alternatives, and recommending a course of action. Ensure timely updates of servers with service packs, patches, etc. Assist in the administration and troubleshooting of the virtualization infrastructure and services, including attached storage devices. Monitor, configure, maintain and troubleshoot data backup system used for Windows and Linux servers. Maintains expertise in a variety of specialized application software packages. Evaluates and implements necessary adjustments to applications to accommodate user requirements. Installs application software updates and coordinates with developer or manufacturer to resolve problems. Maintain configuration files for Linux based enterprise level applications. Document hardware and software components of servers. Provide additional support for faculty and staff as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of Windows Server and Linux operating systems. Ability to analyze server system problems or errors and take corrective action. Experience with data backup principles and systems, preferably Rubrik Backup Management. Experience with video conferencing technologies, preferably Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Understanding of the relationships between application configuration files for Windows and Linux applications and their associated web interfaces, to include Windows Server andIISand Linux and Apache. Some knowledge of MicrosoftSQLconfiguration settings and database access control. Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, end system users, and other IT staff members in support of enterprise level applications such asEMSAcademic Scheduling and Event Management system, InnoSoft Fusion, and Hyland Perceptive Content Imaging solution. Ability to read, understand, and create technical literature.

Required Education and/or Experience

The formal education equivalent of a bachelors degree with a major in computer science, mathematics, or related field; plus two years of experience in system administration or related area. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
