Position Overview:

The Mechanic – Small Engine Repair role involves the skilled repair, maintenance and servicing on small engine equipment including generators, air compressors, jumping jack tamps, concrete saws, and other small equipment. Assists other mechanics as needed; prepares maintenance records and performs other related duties as required. Work includes performing the actual repair, servicing or maintenance work, and any physical test or checks to determine that the work has been satisfactorily completed.

Essential Functions:

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Diagnose, Inspect, operate, test, and repair small engine equipment for proper operation.

  • Completes work requests as required by the shop supervisor

  • Inspect vehicles and equipment to properly diagnose defects and repair

  • Reviews vehicle service history for comebacks and repeat mechanical failures

  • Completes maintenance or repairs as required to return assets to the fleet

  • Advises vehicle status after diagnosing mechanical failures

  • Assists with fleet management assessing repairs or service needs of the vehicle

  • Order repair parts and charge parts to vehicle work orders in the Fleet Management Software system

  • Completes preventative maintenance services on all company-owned equipment

  • Input labor and repair information into the

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities.

  • Ability to work independently and possess strong decision-making skills. Excellent communication skills and math aptitude are fundamental.

  • Must have air brake, hydraulic, preventive maintenance, and DOT inspection experience.

Education

  • High School Diploma or completion of a vocational training program in the area of automotive, diesel or heavy equipment maintenance.

  • Three years full-time mechanic experience repairing small-engine diesel, gasoline, and off-road equipment
