Abbott Ireland Nutrition Division Cootehill Cavan

Abbott Nutrition produces a range of infant formulae in all pack sizes under the brand name “Similac”. To complement the range of “Similac” infant formulae, the facility also manufactures a range of follow-on formulae under the brand name of “Gain”. The essential ingredient is liquid skim-milk and this is combined with carbohydrate, vegetable oils, vitamins and minerals. The product is blended, pasteurised, dried and packaged at the site and once packaged, is distributed to Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Canada.

Established in 1975, Abbott Nutrition in Ireland is the largest powder manufacturing facility for the production of infant formulae within the Abbott Corporation worldwide. Approximately 1,000 dairy farms in Ireland and Northern Ireland supply quality milk to the Cootehill facility which processes 500,000 litres per day. This secure supply together with Ireland’s reputation as a green, clean environment is of significant strategic importance to Abbott Nutrition.

The role of Senior Projects Engineer will involve the following:

Primary Objective

You will work within the Packing Department Projects division joining an established team of Engineers in the delivery of improvements to help integrate new products or processes into the existing manufacturing area, through the execution of project work in compliance with current regulatory and company requirements. The successful candidate will report directly to the Principal Program Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help establish with the Principal Program Manager the departmental goals, schedules and timetables for activities.

  • Plan and schedule work in accordance with plant demand and available manpower.

  • Maintain adequate stores stock levels and ensure proper in/out control.

  • Ensure compliance with Company International Global Standards, GMP & Environmental requirements.

  • Ensure all employees and contractors under his/her direction are fully familiar with all Safety Rules Regulations.

  • Ensure all efforts are made to reduce product cost by improving efficiencies.

  • Drive a Continuous Improvement culture through effective RCA & PPS.

  • Ensure all employees follow correct procedure when carrying out hot work, working at height and confined space entry ensuring work permits are fully in compliance with SOPs.

  • This job function will change where update procedures to GMP, EHS, Technical/New Equipment, Quality procedures and SOPs are made.

  • Manage Project Engineering Department finances within the annual organizational plan

  • Deputize for Project Engineering Manager in their absence.

  • Support Business Excellence initiative in the plant.

Project Management

  • Responsible for leading plant capital projects as assigned.

  • Presentation of project charters and business case proposals for review with management team.

  • Development of project documentation including technical design, scope documents, and key performance indicators (KPI’s) in accordance with corporate, division and site requirements.

  • Preparation of project plans, working closely with key stakeholders on site on business needs and timing of project completion.

  • Development of installation plans, and completion of scope of all project work in accordance with quality, operations, and EHS requirements

  • Presentation of project updates to Management including reporting on Accomplishments/ Upcoming Activities/ Risk & Mitigation & Key Milestones, on a regular basis.

  • Ability to effectively manage project communication at all levels with key stakeholders and contractors.

Financial Management

  • Procurement of vendor services that are fit for purpose, cost effective and incorporate appropriate Service Level Agreements.

  • Undertaken financial analysis, budgeting, tracking and schedule management for all aspects of projects ensuring value for money through competitive bidding, benchmarking and quality reviews.

  • Implementation of regular project reporting structures including milestone achievements, deliverables, status, resource demands and financial control (Actuals vs Forecasting).

Validation

  • Responsible for ensuring full implementation of all projects in line with site validation programs.

  • Play a critical role on the validation review board and play a key role in driving successful completion of all validation packs.

  • Development and execution of validation protocols (FAT, DQ, IQ, OQ PQ).

  • Execution of change controls.

  • Management of any project associated Quality issues and CAPA’s.

Education Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent discipline with a minimum of 7years relevent Engineering Experience

  • Knowledge of an Automated Manufacturing Environment and packing equipment would be an advantage
