Aston Carter Junior Accountant in Coquitlam, British Columbia

Description:

Aston Carter's client currently has 5 locations and look after Account's Payable for all locations in their Headquarters. They are seeking a Junior Accountant/Accounting Clerk to assist with general accounting duties as well AP (likely AP for 1-2 locations). Other tasks include general accounting tasks, customer rebates, inventory related tasks. The plan is for this new resource to take on more and more of the current Junior Accountant's tasks, as they progress into more senior accounting roles.

The Junior Account role may also include supplier rebates, bank reconciliations, accounts receivable, inventory accruals, accounting accruals, financial statements and much more.

In regards to Account's Payable, this will include matching and entering invoices (from purchasing), digging through details of what was shipped or acquired vs paid for, cheque runs. The role will also include digging into inventory and problem solving when items do not match and paying out expenses. They will enter the freight invoices in batched and run cheques, which will then be checked by the Accounting Supervisor. This person will need to be able to trouble shoot due to some potential discrepancies - dollar amount, volume and item may not match, etc.

This company utilizes an ERP system which is slightly more advanced then a QuickBooks or simply accounting called - Foundation. This is a high volume role which requires strong communication, experience in accounts payable and excel skills - sum ifs, working in large amounts of data, executing matching, but not to the level of pivot tables or macros.

Notes for ideal candidate and the role:

  • High Volume; up to100+ invoices a week plus expenses.

  • Attitude - ask questions - why is this like this, taking notes, follow up.

  • Organization - interacting with Supply Chain, Warehouse manager, Supervisor, Controller, answering requests via phone and email, printing and matching packing slips vs POs, staying on top of daily and weekly action items and deadlines.

  • Communication - follow up and ability to question items. Can speak up and ask questions.

  • Relevant Experience - manufacturing is less applicable, shipping, logistics environment, being a 3rd party middle man organization (buying and reselling) is applicable

  • Career Path - Enterprise is willing to bring someone on from two different backgrounds;

  • Individual with degree or diploma with 1 plus year experience in AP and looking to gain more experience in other areas of accounting.

  • Experienced Accounts Payable Specialist - not looking to move up but an organization to stay with long term.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Must Have:

  • 1 year experience in accounting

  • Intermediate Excel proficiency - Sort Data, V-Look Up, Pivot Tables

  • Strong Data Entry scores

  • Accounting education - courses (does not need to be a full graduate - could be doing night courses).

  • Excellent communication - written/verbal - will be communication with clients/vendors.

  • Willingness to work on site Full Time

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in an inventory based based environment;

  • Logistics experience

  • ERP Experience - FOUNDATION

Soft Skills:

  • Confident.

  • Not afraid to ask questions.

  • takes initiative to learn and take on new tasks.

  • Not afraid to engage clients.

Additional Information:

Work Environment:

  • The office environment is Business Casual, quiet and friendly. They have a very positive work environment with little to no turn over. People join the privately owned company and retire with it. The controller started in AP.

  • This role will report to previous Junior Accountant. Working closely with other departments as well clients/vendors.

  • Hours are 8am-5pm with one hour lunch.

  • Dress code: Business Casual

  • Transit Accessible: 1 bus away from Braid Station, parking on site as well.
