The Department of Student Affairs - Wellness & Recreation has an exciting opportunity for a temporary Massage Therapist to work in the Coral Gables Campus.

Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director, Wellness Programs, the Massage Therapist shall develop and implement a Massage Therapy Service for the University of Miami Herbert Wellness Center, emphasizing safety, addressing individual needs, and stress reducing techniques using the following criteria as guidelines.

  • Offers massage session in adherence with the following:

  • Each session shall begin no later than 5 minutes after the posted start time and should end promptly at the end of the scheduled period. Tardiness is unacceptable for the therapist, as well as the client.

  • Each therapist is responsible for maintaining the attendance log of their respected clients, including total number of attendees, type of massage received, and tips received.

  • No client should be allowed into a massage session unless he/she has properly secured a space in the session through appropriate sign-up and payment at the Wellness Suite. Clients must check-in at the reception desk and wait for the therapist to come and get them.

  • The therapist shall abide by any/all other DWR policies and perform any other duties as assigned.

  • Therapists shall make a personal commitment to ensure the satisfaction of all clients treat all clients with respect, concern and give personal attention when needed.

  • The therapist shall adjust methods according to each client’s needs. The therapist should be familiar with services and programs offered at the Wellness Center for referral purposes.

  • Therapists are responsible for finding appropriate substitutes before sessions. Therapists shall notify the Assistant Director, Wellness at least two weeks before the session of the substitution.

  • Each therapist shall ensure general cleanliness and safety of the room before, during and after their session with each client. Room cleanings or supply orders can be arranged upon request to the Assistant Director, Wellness.

  • Each therapist shall familiarize himself/herself with the members of the DWR professional staff who are certified in CPR. Therapists are encouraged to become certified through the Wellness Center.

  • Therapists should provide a 1-hour workshop on self-massage and buddy-massage techniques to alleviate stress (upon request).

  • Therapists should maintain their active and clear licensure status.
