Job Summary

Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of one or more 24x7 Desks at the System Control Center (SCC), which provides reliable, efficient operation and coordination of the AEP transmission system across various RTO regions, Ensuring the SCC's policies, procedures, and compliance related documentation are kept up-to-date, Coordinating and scheduling the training activities of SCC personnel, acting as liaison between applicable Reliability Coordinators on real-time operating issues, Fostering operational excellence at the SCC, Assisting in ensuring adherence to all applicable NERC Reliability Standards and RTO policies and procedures for the Transmission Operator function for which AEP is registered and for coordinating Transmission Operations compliance readiness for NERC and Region audits, Involves keeping management informed of any and all matters of significant events, complaints and/ or concerns that may be elevated to other levels of the organization

Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Supervise the employees of the System Control Center in the daily operation and coordination of the AEP transmission system across various RTO regions and ensure operations are performed in compliance with all applicable NERC Reliability Standards, RTO policies and procedures, and enforce all applicable Company and Transmission Operations policies.

Provide support to management in advancing technical innovation within Transmission Operations regarding visualization techniques, advancement of situational awareness, monitoring tools and grid reliability analysis tools.

Take the lead in obtaining and reviewing evidence and create/revise RSAW's as required for annual self-certifications, quarterly self-certifications, quarterly exception reports, spot audits and audits.

Ensure all operator logs are reviewed and accurate. Direct and assist in the preparation of logs and other records to provide a clear history of operational activities.

Assist and ensure all documentation of procedures, policies, and compliance related documentation is kept up-to-date.

Coordinate and schedule the training activities of System Control Center personnel to ensure the annual training plan requirements are met. Follow-up with each operator's training to ensure adequate comprehension and progress is being made. Coordinate all OJT.

Address all real-time operating issues that arise at the Desk(s), analyze emergency situations quickly and consult on effective and reasonable courses of action. Prepare management reports on real-time issues as requested.

Conduct emergency preparedness and evacuation drills.

Participate in the NERC Standards process by reviewing relevant Standard Authorization requests and Draft Standards and providing comments to management as requested.

Work with Transmission Operations Support to improve EMS modeling and accuracy.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Two year associate degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or HS/GED.

Experience: Minimum of 9 years with two year degree or 12 years with HS/GED, in one or more of the following areas: transmission operations (preferred), transmission field services, transmission engineering, generation operations experience with a solid background and thorough understanding of interconnected electric utility operations and power system analysis related to normal and contingent operating conditions.

Licenses/Certifications: Must maintain or obtain within 12 months, NERC certification at the Reliability Coordinator (RC) level and any Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) certifications and credentials associated with AEP memberships. Valid state driver's license.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

1) Demonstrated ability to effectively organize, direct, and coordinate the work of other personnel.

2) Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and present ideas clearly both orally and in writing.

3) Excellent time management skills.

4) Demonstrated leadership ability and willingness to accept responsibility.

5) Understands Company and TOPS policies and procedures, and willingness to enforce them.

6) Committed to continuous improvement.

7) Review personnel training records to ensure compliance.

8) Advocate operational excellence and efficiency in all activities performed by employees of the System Control Center.

9) Responsible for creating and maintaining a work schedule for the operating desks to ensure each desk is staffed with a certified and qualified operator.

10) Participate as assigned in regional, national, and industry meetings and forums to further the advancement of operational reliability practices, real-time tools, and industry minimum training standards for system operators. Job code: 63060
