Robert Half Collections Specialist in Cortland, New York
Description We are offering a short term contract employment opportunity for a Collections Specialist in the Service industry, based in CORTLAND, New York. As a Collections Specialist, your primary role will be to manage debt collection activities for a selection of important retained customers and resolve any related disputes. You will also support the Order to Cash (O2C) process lead with onshore O2C operations and Shared Service Center (SSC) initiatives when necessary.
Responsibilities:
• Own a portfolio of key customer accounts and address outstanding debt issues
• Evaluate customer account balances in compliance with company policy
• Set collection workflows in alignment with managerial targets after reviewing outstanding collections
• Engage with customers following credit and collections policies to determine the collectability of debt, identify invoice disputes, and request payment of overdue and upcoming invoices
• Use electronic means to view, request, and send invoices when required
• Guide customers towards making payments via the appropriate channels
• Document collections activity information in the Collections Workflow System, including details of collection calls/emails, promises to pay, dispute details, and general requests and inquiries
• Generate collections status management reports at agreed intervals
• Collaborate with divisional personnel regarding customer disputes and issues
• Handle debts that are "in default" following legal action by the company
• Address escalated deductions issues internally when identified as the key point of contact Requirements • Proven experience as a Collections Specialist or similar role.
• Proficiency in Account Reconciliation is a must.
• Familiarity with Accounts Payable (AP) procedures.
• Strong understanding of Accounts Receivable (AR) process.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in using financial software and databases.
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
• Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of legal regulations related to debt collection.
• A degree in finance, business administration or a related field is preferred.
