North America is an important part of that future, and we're thrilled to introduce our business, and our unique approach to contract mining, to Salt Lake City and the surrounding Intermountain West region. 

ROLE OVERVIEW

In this role, you will be leading the Asset and Maintenance function for North America to ensure safe, reliable, cost effective equipment performance on our mining projects.  You will support the Asset and Maintenance teams in our current mining projects while driving growth in new projects across the USA and Canada.  You will build and harness relationships with key equipment suppliers and ensure all off site Asset work is managed timely and on budget.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a professional relationship and climate of mutual trust with all Thiess Americas personnel and our Clients
  • Attendance and active participation in lineouts, toolbox talks and relevant meetings while on site
  • Maintain a professional relationship with suppliers and subcontractors
  • Conduct regular meetings with subcontractors and any direct reports (participate in Quarterly Supplier Meetings)
  • Support the development of annual budgets
  • Monitor and drive accuracy with cost allocations through project resources
  • Manage employee relations and performance issues within own department
  • Conduct establishment and mobilization of plant & equipment in accordance with the agreed plan a
  • Assist with onboarding and culture establishment in new projects and scheduling sequence for new projects
  • Develop and manage (with Supply Chain) the procurement of all tooling and equipment required to commence at new projects
  • Seek opportunities to improve overall project performance and create win-win situations for our Client and Thiess
  • Provide a strong and consistent focus on business growth in the region and participate in business development activities as required from time to time
  • Assist with development of site management plans ie mobilization & traffic management plans
  • Provide clear performance expectations to personnel and reinforce correct behavior through recognition and encouragement

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Substantial operational experience with Mobile Mining Assets Mining Assets in an Open Cut environment
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in Leadership roles
  • Exposure to the open cut mining industry -- highly desirable
  • Knowledge of applicable OSHA and MSHA Regulations
  • Contract management and basic accounting
  • Effective communication skills -- both written and oral
  • 50% travel (international and domestic)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Based out of the North American Business Unit in the greater Salt Lake City Utah area (Cottonwood Heights) or potentially remote 
  • This is a hybrid role with a blend of home and office working opportunities, however, during a period of training and for other business needs there m y be times when 100% office work is required
  • 50% travel is required for this position (International and domestic)
