POSITION OVERVIEW
Responsible for providing basic in-take and performing duties to assist providers with direct patient care, and assisting patients overcome barriers by providing community resources.
SCHEDULE AND PAY
Clinic Open: Monday – Thursday 8AM - 7PM and Friday 8AM – 5PM. Scheduling needs will be discussed during interview. The pay depends on experience and start at
Non-certified MA pay range: $18-20
Licensed/certified MA range: $20-23
DUTIES
Performs clinical duties as requested by provider/supervisor.
Obtains medical and social history
Completes mental health screens and education
Obtains and records vital signs and measurements in EHR
Prepares specimens for processing
Prepares routine procedures as required per patient visit (including EKGs, PPD placements/readings and immunizations)
Distributes medication to patients as directed by nursing staff and/or providers
Checks laboratory controls and receives results
Draws blood when necessary
Performs clerical duties to assist with the patient workflow
Pulls, prepares, and files medical charts
Gathers patient information, and records changes indicated on the encounter form
Schedules follow-up appointments as necessary
Completes any necessary paperwork for referrals and follow-up appointments
Addresses patient questions and concerns via phone calls in a professional manner
Connects with patients to identify barriers to treatment
Familiar with community resources for when immediate care is not available
Follows up with patients that are provided with community resources
Creates and maintains positive relationships with community resources
Maintains database of community resources with updated contacts
Provides education to behavioral health providers about new community resources
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Possesses a current, valid certification as a medical assistant in the State of Iowa or obtains the certification within 12 months of employment; Basic Life Support Certification
High school diploma or GED required.
