The Plant Engineer is responsible for proposing and executing new projects and providing technical support to the maintenance and production departments. The goal is to make existing facility chemical processes safer, more reliable, efficient, and profitable. The engineer will work closely with operators, production, quality, R&D, Health/Safety/Environmental/Security staff, mechanics, and contractors.
Responsibilities
Work with operators and production/quality/R&D staff to troubleshoot productivity and quality issues.
Collaborate with Health/Safety/Environmental/Security staff to improve safety and regulatory compliance.
Partner with mechanics and contractors to enhance chemical processes for reliability and profitability.
Create and update Process Flow Diagrams, Piping & Instrument Diagrams, Work Instructions, and Standard Operating Procedures.
Develop project scopes, bid documents, process designs, project budgets, and specify and procure equipment and instruments.
Manage the installation and commissioning of plant projects.
Conduct contractor safety training as needed and maintain electronic files of equipment.
Provide technical support to the Maintenance department, including updates to equipment files.
Support the use of safety permits such as LOTO, Line Break, hot work, and confined space entry.
Participate in weekly reviews of mechanic work order status and planning.
Champion the use of work order software for documentation and tracking of maintenance action items.
Support ISO-9000 programs, including equipment calibration and preventative maintenance.
Organize, schedule, and manage annual shutdown work and contractor inspections.
Identify and stock critical spare parts to avoid extended process downtime.
Work with production and maintenance staff to resolve urgent production issues.
Document, evaluate, and optimize chemical processes for safety, quality, reliability, and profitability.
Champion plant safety by working with the Safety Committee and conducting Process Hazard Analyses.
Develop safety training presentations for quarterly training sessions for production/maintenance.
Review and revise standard operating procedures for new and existing processes/equipment.
Review batch card information for quality and yield data.
Perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions for plant incidents.
Provide leadership in 6S housekeeping and lean engineering projects/audits.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering (preferred) or Mechanical Engineering.
3+ years of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.
Experience with project management of capital projects or process improvement projects.
Experience with project scoping.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certificate.
PHA training certificate.
Work Environment
This position is based in a plant located in Covington, KY. The role involves very limited travel (less than 5%). There are two different plants in the vicinity. The company is a small organization with about 50 employees who work closely together like a family, treating everyone very well. The position offers the opportunity to tackle complex technical issues related to chemical manufacturing and has the potential to advance to an engineering manager role within 3-5 years.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $67.69
