Naval Facilities Engineering Command HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in Crane, Indiana

Summary You will serve as a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic in the Public Works Department of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC. Responsibilities You will disassemble, inspect, repair, or replace diesel or gasoline engines and parts (e.g., injection valves, cylinder, heads, cylinder sleeves, pistons, rings, connecting rods, bearings, gaskets, crankshafts) during maintenance. You will disassemble, inspect, assemble large/complex engines (e.g., up to 16 cylinders and 2000 hp). You will repair and overhaul transmissions, gear type, automatic and manual transmissions with braking, steering and differential systems mechanically integrated. You will apply extensive knowledge of the principles behind the operation of heavy mobile equipment to determine reasons for defects or problems in the absence of technical guidelines. You will conduct tests using diagnostic equipment, including computer-controlled test equipment, to identify problems which are difficult to locate and repair. You will alter, improvise, or modify to make items work properly and/or improve performance. You will operate all equipment and/or vehicles maintained, repaired, overhauled or modified, when work is completed.
