About the role:

The Supplier Quality Assurance engineer monitors, measures and improves the quality of parts and products produced by our external suppliers, leading by example to ensure that we deliver a high quality product every time

The Supplier QA Engineer reports into the Quality Manager.

The role requires a close working relationship with the Sourcing and Engineering teams as well as our suppliers to ensure that designs and requirements are clearly defined; specifications and standards are adhered to; first articles and follow on deliveries meet quality and technical requirements; issues found are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner; and repeat failures are avoided.

Day to day responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Support the evaluation of new suppliers and their quality management systems

  • Audit existing supplier processes and quality management systems

  • Establish regular communication with suppliers (via email / telecom / visits)

  • Visit supplier premises to support product buy-offs or quality investigations

  • Create & maintain supplier visit schedules

  • Monitor supplier product quality and raise NCRs when required

  • Support, monitor and audit new and existing suppliers and first articles to ensure compliance to appropriate standards and requirements

  • Capture and analyse all defects, rework and rejects relating to supplied parts

  • Measure and communicate monthly supplier metrics

  • Reporting internally on supplier quality performance

  • Investigate supplier issues following an 8D root causes corrective action process

  • Verifying implementation and effectiveness of supplier correction actions

  • Work with internal functions and suppliers on lessons learnt and to provide countermeasures to eradicate reoccurring issues

  • Provide support to external audit bodies (such as ISO 9001:2015)

  • Ensure adherence to internal process, as well as update and improve those processes.

  • The role may also require support to other Quality Assurance related activities within the business depending on risks, priorities, production activities and new developments at the time.

  • Working knowledge of the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system standard

  • Qualifications & experience in manufacturing, production, quality or engineering disciplines

  • Experience in supplier quality assurance processes and in dealing with suppliers is preferable

  • Ability to work within a programme team and engage with other functions

  • Strong written & verbal communication skills

  • Understanding and interpretation of engineering drawings

  • Prepared to challenge constructively and raise issues and concerns that need addressing

  • Willingness to work flexible hours to support the programme if required

  • Able to work away from home to support short duration trips (1 – 5 days typically)

    Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and use of Quality tools and methods such as 8D, Ishikawa, 5-Why, SPC, Pareto, etc.
