TEXAS DISPOSAL SYSTEMS INC TECHNICIAN II - AUSTIN in Creedmoor, Texas

JOB SUMMARY

The Technician II assists with maintenance tasks for company assets and assists maintenance staff with overhauling minor components and installing replacements, with electrical, hydraulic and computer diagnostics and with scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when and where required.
  2. Report immediately any safety violations and correcting unsafe acts or conditions.
  3. Comply with company safety policies and with applicable state and federal regulations.
  4. May be required to drive a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) not to exceed 26,000 pounds.
  5. Perform preventive maintenance according to the set schedules.
  6. Document preventative maintenance operations and track time in accordance with company procedures.
  7. Refuel trucks and equipment as required and assist with washing on occasion.
  8. Request parts required as necessary.
  9. Maintain service truck readiness including safety equipment, tools, equipment, and cleanliness.
  10. Assist other technicians with repairs or projects.
  11. Maintain repair order documentation to include repair description, parts and fluids used, and repair times.
  12. Perform monthly inventories as required.
  13. Maintain a clean workspace.
  14. Perform diagnostic work and determine the correct course of action to repair.
  15. Attend training sessions for continuing education.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least one year of preventative maintenance or mechanical experience, or technical degree with demonstrated knowledge of maintenance on class 8 vehicles
  • Must possess own tools
  • Familiarity with shop equipment and safety practices
  • Must be able to obtain Department of Transportation (DOT) brake certification
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Basic automotive knowledge
  • Basic understanding of oil sampling theory and practices
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Demonstrated aptitude for maintaining and repairing equipment
  • Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines
  • Ability to learn basic computer skills to communicate document daily work and progress, track procurements and repair status
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and remain alert to ensure safety
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions and to communicate with co-workers
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment

PREFERRED SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • Class B commercial drivers license
  • Safe driving record for the past five years
  • Formal training in preventive maintenance operations
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified or the ability to obtain certification

REQUIRED LICENSES and CERTIFICATIONS

  • Valid Class C drivers license
  • Safe driving record for the past three years
  • Current State Inspector License or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment
