Our team is working on redefining user interaction with generative models for text generation. You will have the opportunity to go from building offline pioneering NLP models to optimization of the models for different hardware backends and user interfaces that make the experience magical. Description

As a key pillar of Apple Intelligence, input experience will be the main area where you bring impact to billions of users with your ML expertise, engineering passion, and programming skills. You will work with a hard-working and dedicated set of outstanding ML and software engineers on a wide range of most advanced text generation technologies such as context-augmented text rewriting, safety-controlled text composition, free-form text transformation, personalized smart interactions, etc. Our team has been working in this area for years and own the NLP and ML text input stack for the keyboard input that includes autocorrection, predictive typing on all Apple platforms. We also work on full stack ML applied to NLP and expose these key technologies across Apple on device and also to third party applications through the Natural-Language framework. Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong machine learning fundamentals

  • Strong programming and communication skills

  • Ph.D. in CS/EE/Physics/Statistics/etc. (or Bachelor/Master with 2 years of industry experience)

Key Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Actively exercising machine learning techniques, including implementing basic optimizers and regularizations; formulating and implementing loss functions for given tasks, applying insightful parameter tuning in model training and evaluation, reproducing and revising state-of-the-art research experiments; addressing accuracy and performance bottlenecks in distributed training and inference, and benchmarking different model compressing methods

  • Actively programming with high-quality codes across complex and large repositories, including implementing new optimizer or loss functions, algorithm optimizations for critical performance or accuracy, refactoring or redesigning of existing code-base for improved robustness and flexibility, processing large data set efficiently and accurately, establishing automated synthesis/training/evaluation pipeline across multiple sets of internal and external APIs, and applying common object-oriented design patterns

  • Familiar with common NLP algorithms and applications, including tokenization, language modeling, text decoding, text classifier etc

  • Experience of multi-modal modeling, presenting plans, progress, and results or demos regularly and concisely

  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $138,900 and $256,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
