Job Summary and Qualifications
Under the general direction of the Director, the Cook is responsible for preparing food items for patient tray line, cafeteria, and Hospital functions.
What you will do in this role:
- Utilizing food production sheets, prepares food products in accordance with standards.
a.Utilizes standardized recipes for food preparation.
b.Maintains portion control using standardized recipes.
c. Maintains standards for sanitation in the preparation of all food products.
- Maintains equipment and work areas in a sanitary and safe condition.
a.Adheres to schedules for all equipment and food preparation areas.
b.Provides routine maintenance and cleaning of all equipment with reporting of problems.
c.Uses equipment in the kitchen effectively and safely.
Follows standardized recipes accurately in preparing all food products.
Utilizes principles of infection control and sanitation in the preparation, serving, and storage of food products. Utilizes basic mathematical calculations accurately in preparing foods.
Utilizes appropriate safety and sanitation principles in the provision of services.
a. Utilizes appropriate body mechanics in the moving and lifting of supplies and equipment.
b. Utilizes appropriate precautions related to infection control in relation to maintenance of equipment, supplies, the environment, and personal hygiene activities.
Communicates effectively verbally and in writing to fulfill position responsibilities.
Actively participates in the Quality Improvement Program for the Department.
Maintains own professional growth through appropriate inservice programs and other related education.
In collaboration with the Director, the cook establishes priorities for activities based on work demand.
Actively participates in Hospital and Departmental committees and group meetings with a focus on providing input regarding improving the quality of services in the facility.
Ensures that problems or concerns regarding the Nutritional Services Department and other related areas are communicated with the Director.
Follows department approved and assigned job flow.
Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered.
What qualifications you will need:
Previous experience in hospital food service, preferred.
Food Handler's Permit, ServSafe Food Protection Mgr, or Food Safety Certification, required within 30 days of hire.
