Diageo Yunnan Er’yuan Distillery

Are you a whisky aficionado? Have you been to some of the most iconic whisky distilleries in Scotland? At Diageo, we boasts a wealth of legendary brands and we had 450,000 to 500,000 people that have visited Diageo’s Scotch distilleries every year. Talisker, Port Ellen, and more...top the most visited distilleries. Scotch is our largest category, which contributes enormously to the UK economy and job opportunities. To further grow China's scotch tourism industry, in November 2021, we announced to invest in the build of a US$75 million malt whisky distillery in Yunnan Province in China.

Located in Eryuan County in Yunnan (云南省大理州洱源县), the Diageo Eryuan Malt Whisky Distillery will produce Diageo’s first China-origin, premium malt whisky. At more than 2,100m above sea level, the 66,000 square meter distillery will also feature an immersive and interactive visitor experience centre that will attract whisky enthusiasts and boost the local cultural tourism industry. Construction is expected to begin in 2022 with the intend to start the operations of the Distillery in late 2023 and to start the operations of the visitor experience centre in 2024.

The candidate will have the great opportunities to witness and be part of the establishment of the Site from scratch. The site is located at Feng-yu Town of Er-yuan County of Dali in Yunnan Province, which is in the middle of a remote and beautiful location.

About this role

The role will need to develop and embed the systems, capabilities and behaviours of quality and compliance systems at the site to guarantee our brand reputational quality and ensure the distillery and visiting centre meets regulatory product requirements and (internal& external) audit.

You will be responsible for:

Quality policies, systems, capability, and behaviours

  • Establish quality policies and systems, define quality goals and targets, from the vendor selection/qualification, material in-take, in-house processes and controls, and the maturation warehouse.

  • Define and assign quality process responsibility and accountabilities

  • Develop training and qualification plans for related personnel across levels

  • Manage and assure site laboratory operations ensuring standards and best practices are adhered to

  • Manage the change control process

Implementation of standards and managing the deviations and continuing to improve standards

  • Establish the tiered process and performance indicators

  • Use Tiered meetings for accountability, coaching and escalations

  • Insist thorough problem solving to quality losses

  • Reward and recognize the great accomplishments and behaviours

  • Uphold standards to protect the brands, people, assets and our reputations

Set up and embed corporate controls, compliance, and risk management systems and behaviors

  • Liaise with China Compliance team to develop and implement training plans

  • Conduct internal controls review for compliance and continuous improvement

  • Stay connected with the developments of provincial and local regulations

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor degree or above in food and related majors or more than 5 years of relevant working experience

  • Track record in developing systems and adhering to high quality standards for MNC of Food and Fermentation segments.

  • Be analytical and methodological in problem solving, including Design of Experiments (DOE), desirable - Green belt or equivalent in six sigma
