County of Gaston Parks and Recreation Director in Dallas, North Carolina

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | The duties listed below are not all the duties that may be assigned | | but are those that are considered essential for an employee to | | perform. | | | | - Directs, plans, organizes, and monitors the Parks and Recreation | | Department, Senior Center, and Grounds Maintenance Division, | | including the use and operations of county parks and facilities. | | Establishes long and short-range goals and objectives. | | - Manages department personnel - including hiring and job | | performance appraisals. Prioritizes staff duties to achieve | | department goals. Seeks training and career development | | opportunities for staff. | | - Develops and administers the annual budget for Parks and | | Recreation Department, Senior Center, and Grounds Maintenance | | Division; prepares budget reports and documentation. | | - Directs Grounds Maintenance operations of County facilities - | | including parks and County grounds. Develops, administers, and | | monitors contracts for county grounds and parks. | | - Communicates with the public, Parks and Recreation Advisory | | Board, County Administration, and County departments, on Parks | | and Recreation issues. Networks with municipalities and community | | groups. Seeks partnerships and input on parks issues. | | - Plans and develops County recreation facilities and policies; | | assesses park conditions and plans for long range needs. Monitors | | trends and best practices for parks. Assists community groups in | | development of recreation facilities as requested. | | - Prepares agenda for Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and Park | | Partners Board meetings; solicits input, collaborates, and | | communicates with board members on departmental plans, policies, | | operations, programs, funding, policies, and issues. | | - Seeks opportunities for collaboration with community groups, | | civic organizations, businesses, and individuals to increase | | parks and recreation resources. Prepares federal, state, and | | local grant requests. | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Minimum Qualifications: | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation or a related field with | | ten (10) years of progressive experience in a Parks and Recreation | | setting or closely related field required. A Master's Degree and/or | | a Certified Recreation and Park Profession Certification is | | preferred. | | | | Good communication skills and the ability to establish effective | | working relationships with Advisory Board is required.
