Position: Facilities Support Engineer
Job Description:
Forward Air is seeking a Facilities Support Engineer who will provide design, management and support services for facilities operations. This position includes developing network designs, managing installation/construction services and 2nd level support of service operations and data centers across the country. Recommend initiatives and execute projects to meet business operational requirements.
Core Responsibilities & Duties:
Working with contractors and engineers to design a station infrastructure
Draw/design the wired and wireless infrastructure and generate quotes and PO’s based on design and scope of work
Work with contractors to insure an on-time delivery of facility wiring
Traveling to sites to upgrade, install, test and train users on new systems
Level 2 helpdesk support on networked items, including Computers, printers, handhelds and servers
Support Cisco routers, switches, access points, and monitoring software
Phone switch support, to include legacy, Cisco CME, and Enterprise voice
Support and keep operational multiple Data Centers
Coordinate with Operations Staff facility moves, building access, and physical layout
Coordinate voice and data network requirements and order the circuits
Source local vendor to perform voice/data wiring
Design and manage computer room with necessary power, ground, wall boards, and air conditioning, and work with vendors to deliver
Manage and coordinate local vendor and Terminal Manager, the voice and data jack locations, including printers, along with electrical outlet locations and any other special needs
Provide quality assurance and final validation of voice/data cabling and fiber as needed: D-mark extensions, Access points, Paging horn(s), and additional office data/voice line runs
Manage vendor or provide service to terminate patch panels, 66 block(s), and wall jacks as needed
Perform site survey for wireless access points and oversee installation
Design and specify rack(s), router, switch(s), phone switch, and paging system (horn(s) and Amplifier installation
Perform on site configuration changes on Cisco Switches, routers, and Access Points as needed
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
4+ years’ experience with critical infrastructure systems, including new facility construction, mechanical and electrical upgrades of existing facilities, and other related construction work
At least 4 years of work experience in customer-facing software technical support in a support organization
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
Strong understanding of Data and Voice wiring and hardware
Strong knowledge of Telecommunication services
Meticulous attention to detail, planning and organizational abilities
Knowledge and experience supporting Data and Telecommunication equipment and functions
Ability to configure Cisco Routers, Switches and Merak Wireless, via CLI, using putty or teraterm
Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio)
Ability to learn and support new applications. Work with staff and vendors require interpersonal skills
An ability and aptitude to work with construction firms on a regular basis; an understanding of standard practices in the construction industry Experience in managing technical consultants and maintaining project schedules and budgets
Experience with issuing RFPs, written purchase orders and review and approve invoices.
Interface with Managers and get approval for critical maintenance
Excellent project management skills, the ability to manage both projects and project team members seamlessly, and the ability to work across organizational boundaries to accomplish goals
Have a Driver’s License and credit card for travel purposes and expenses (Travel expenses are 100% reimbursed per company policy)
Willingness and ability to travel (30-40% of time) to remote site locations to manage and monitor overall progress on construction projects
Advanced hardware and software troubleshooting skills
Experience supporting enterprise software products
Knowledge of Windows operating systems, including installation, configuration, system administration, and troubleshooting procedures
Demonstrated ability to cooperatively work across IT Management and Functional Business Unit lines of management
Must also be an effective communicator and explain the problem clearly in both technical and user-friendly language
Teamwork is very important as data and telecommunications analysts are part of a team and must cooperate with other workers in solving a problem
Must also possess leadership skills and must be able to guide others
