  • Responsible for providing Flight Operations support in the areas of performance data production, flight planning, route and payload studies, takeoff and landing performance, weight and balance, performance data automation and analysis.

What you'll do

  • ​Primary responsibility for Takeoff Performance System (TPS), Flight Planning System (FPS) and Load Planning System (LPS) for Mainline AA and Envoy

  • May be assigned responsibility by Director to lead teams in any one of the following areas of expertise: Low-speed performance, High-speed performance, Weight and Balance, Engineering Data Support, ACARS/Communications Support, and Fuel Smart

  • Responsible for Operations And Aircraft Statistical Information Summary (OAASIS) – primary data drain for Flight Operations System (FOS) data for Mainline AA and Envoy

  • Controls and manages the seat restriction analyses process including design of detailed performance calculations and probabilistic models for multi-variant Monte Carlo analyses

  • Analyzes new aircraft and provides the manufacturers with guidance to suit AA operational needs. Defines requirements and gathers and validates information, applying judgment and statistical tests to ensure data integrity. Provides recommendations to senior management.

  • Oversees the development of requirements and architectures for corporate performance data, database creation and data analysis

  • Creates new models for fuel forecasting and participates in monthly reviews for burn rates. Observes operational changes to provide guidance as well as gathers and analyzes information about all components in the process, using a variety of sources.

  • Manages the Aircraft Weight Tracking System (AWTS) for aircraft weight records

  • Ensures accurate maintenance of FAA-Approved Weight & Balance Control Manual (WBCM)

  • Acts as a point of contact for changes to FOS settings and establishment of FOS Control processes and procedures

  • Analyzes the operating performance and problems of the real time system from a user’s perspective

  • Directs and oversees the development of additional automation to support key critical manual processes

  • Primary point-of-contact with IOC and Flight with respect to aircraft performance and weight & balance

  • Primary coordinator of performance data for Minimum Equipment List (MEL) and Configuration Deviation List (CDL)

  • Primary interface with FAA CMO on matters pertaining to Approved Weight & Balance program

  • Respond to queries by pilots, dispatchers, load agents and operations planning personnel as required

  • Responsible for handling aircraft engineering and analysis efforts for operations groups and participating in departmental technology projects

  • Manages and directs engineers’ technical support duties for a fleet of aircraft and will act as business unit coordinator for applications development

  • Complete special projects as assigned by Managing Director or Director - Projects may involve aircraft performance engineering as well as business and statistical analysis

  • Coordinates and assign projects as required

  • Coordinates Engineers participation in inter-departmental training (e.g., aircraft performance training for flight crews, dispatchers, load agents, etc.)

  • Coordinates Departmental efforts in the assisting of aircraft accident / incident investigation, including interpretation of Flight Data Recorder (FDR) data

  • Represents AA acting as liaison to government and industry groups regarding aircraft operational subjects and related activities

  • Participates in Operations Data Analysis Working Group (ODAWG) as a key data resource

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience/training

  • ​7 years of experience in aircraft performance or weight & balance engineering

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • MS degree in related field

  • Experience with Airbus and Boeing performance programs

  • Experience with database and programming software

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Knowledge of jet aircraft performance, navigation and/or weight and balance

  • ​Proficient with Microsoft Office Software and knowledge of FORTRAN, Visual Basic, C#, SQL, .NET, SAS, Java, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and XML/HTML preferred

  • Ability to effectively communicate operational topics to other employees as well as with manufacturing representatives

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, shift priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
