Belcan are seeking to hire experienced Naval Architects (5 years+) with commercial ship building and offshore experience. Experience in the design and installation of floating off shore structures is highly desireable.
Key areas of skills and knowledge should encompass some of the following main areas:
Work across the whole design lifecycle from concept to production
Conceptual design and feasibility studies for newbuild, maintenance/repair, refit and conversion projects
Innovation R&D projects - in conjunction with the likes of UK SHORE, Innovate UK, KTN
Net zero focus - alternative fuels & emerging technologies integration, floating offshore wind
Hydrostatics - Intact & damage stability analysis, inc. launching, mobilization, transportation & installation
Hydrodynamics - inc hullform design & optimization, manoeuvring, seakeeping
Specialised computational analysis - CFD, Moorings
Structural design - global & local scantling design, longitudinal strength, FEA
Classification society & statutory authority liaison
Vessel surveying and reporting
Multi-discipline system integration awareness
Project specification production (from minor repair to newbuild)
Shipyard on-site support inc. project overseeing
The role has a strong focus on engineering delivery and quality.
Amongst other things the successful candidate will be comfortable working in an Engineering Service environment and will be able to balance the technical responsibilities inherent within the role, with the commercial and project timescale associated with delivery.
Principle Responsibilities:
Customer
Interacts with customer technical focal points as required
Be able to interact well with both internal and external stakeholders and communicate technical issues; propose solutions for features which do not meet the requirements etc.
Supporting team leader to define approach, timescales and hours associated with tasks
Interacts with customer technical focal points as required
Delivery
On-Time, On-Budget delivery in accordance with customer quotations
Adherence to the Belcan QMS
P&L
Identify cost savings (internal & customer)
Identify change
Manages change and can articulate its occurrence
Resource/Capability
Responsible for technical quality of personal output
Helps support other team members as directed by Team Leader/Management
Helps support Team Leader/Management with aspects such as capability development, QMS related quality issues etc.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
o Must be degree qualified. However other qualifications and experience will be considered.
o Minimum 5 Years" experience in Marine engineering/ Oil & Gas/ Vessel Design and construction.
o Must be proficient in the use of the appropriate tools and techniques that will be used by his/ her team (e.g. AutoCAD, ShipConstructor, Inventor, Solidworks, NX, Foran, Aveva Marine/Tribon, NAPA, Paramarine, Maxsurf, GHS, Rhino, Orca3D, STAAD, Strand 7, Ansys, Star CCM+, Orcaflex….)
o Must have an excellent knowledge of CLAME, Germanischer Lloyds, Def Stan and other appropriate marine codes.
o Working knowledge of structural FEA techniques and software packages.
o Highly proficient in structural hand calculations methods and techniques.
o Must be a highly capable communicator both written and spoken.
o Must be an excellent team player with a tenacious and resilient attitude to drive the interface with the customer and the various engineering and support functions of the business.
o Provide technical support and troubleshooting responses in assigned areas to operational units or other activities.
o Appreciates and can articulate the value of the engineering lifecycle and the relationship to the Lifecycle Management Process. Support and participate in technical reviews to ensure product viability.
o Understand the importance of Health & Safety and Risk Assessment requirements and can articulate the need to ensure that the product is acceptably safe and that product and system safety assessments form part of the design process.
o Must have an understanding of regulatory and statutory requirements of the product.
o Has an appreciation of the requirement that the environmental impact of our activities is sustainable in the long term.
o Appreciates the need for a supportability engineering process to sustain the long term viability of the business. Understands that supportability goes beyond basic design, maintenance and operability requirements.
