Trimble Inc Mechanical Engineering Technician in Dayton, Ohio

Title: Mechanical Engineer Location: Dayton, OH Division: CTCT The CTCT division (a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar) develops positioning, control and automation products for earthmoving and paving machines in the construction and mining industries, using technologies such as GNSS, optical total stations, lasers and sonics. The products are used in a range of applications where the operator of the machine benefits from having accurate horizontal and vertical guidance. For more information on currently developed products, see http://construction.trimble.com/earthworks Under general supervision and direction, work supporting mechanical engineering staff in both ordinary and challenging design efforts for development, ongoing support, and testing of machine control hardware. Requires hands on mechanical aptitude as well as effective computer use and good communication skills. In addition to the above, CTCT also engages ODM developers for the design and manufacture of system support products (tablets, valve modules, etc). The mechanical engineer will have as a minimum, a monitoring role, assisting in the design management of the ODM. In practice, this is likely to include, having sufficient knowledge of all aspects of a design to be able to, participate in, In-depth design reviews, Offer advice on critical areas, and, Be able to communicate concerns to the ODM. Key Responsibilities: Drawing updates and changes Design, quote, and guide building of vibration shaker table fixturing Design of simple test fixtures, such as shock fixture plates Design of installation hardware for products, such as brackets. Create or distill simplified component models from existing 3D model library Work with product engineering to develop and troubleshoot basic test fixtures and tools Search and recommend replacement and alternate mechanical parts Assist in investigation of field issues with low to medium difficulty Create missing documentation for older or inherited products Replacement part implementation including writing test plans, populating and staging Engineering Change Orders (ECO) Assist in investigation of field issues with moderate difficulty Design of moderately complex assembly/test fixtures Skills & Experience Required/Preferred: New Grad Hire - Graduation date (01/2025 - 12/2025) Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Mechanical aptitude Some basic electrical and software experience is helpful 3D CAD experience-PTC Creo preferred Expert in Pro-Engineering/Creo in all of its modules including detailing, surfacing, assembly, feature, sheet metal and FEA stress/thermal analysis. Check out and check in parts from Windchill Model and edit 3D parts and assemblies Create and modify 2D manufacturing drawings Create simplified "space-claim models" from existing assemblies Material selection and evaluation Experience with aluminum die casting and die cast parts Rapid prototyping of aids, fixtures, and test parts Procured rapid prototypes (SLA/SLS, machined components) Experience with troubleshooting mechanical failures in bolted joints, moisture ingress through seals and gaskets, part and feature premature wear Simulation and FEA experience - static structural analysis, modal analysis Office applications MS Excel (Google Sheets) - bill of materials (BOM) creation, statistics, simple data analysis, Word (Google Docs) - construct test plans, test reports PowerPoint (Google Slides)- convey design ideas, presentations Moderately complex fixture design experience Matlab experience helpful Agile PLM and Oracle ERP experienc
