What you'll do...

Engine Dynamometer (ELD) / Automatic Transmission Development (ATDL) / Advanced Engineering Center (AEC) / Gas Turbine (GTL) / Engine Research (RIC) Laboratory Manager, VEV (LL5), North America, VEV

Major Responsibilities - (Not necessarily all essential responsibilities)

Strategic Planning and Design Verification Efficiency

  • Develop, align, and deploy efficient (labor, capital, and technology) testing solutions to meet ICE, xHEV and EV powertrain technology and regulatory strategy.

  • Co-lead the development and implementation of the global powertrain best practices and DV efficiency teams, including lean methodologies.

  • Develop and maintain relevant KPI’s (key process indicators) to measure business success.

  • Deliver master strategy for powertrain testing activity inclusive of implementing new testing tools, procedures, and methods.

  • Deliver measurable high time in service (HTIS) warranty issue resolution in support of Design Verification Method (DVM) changes and on-going quality initiatives.

  • Leverage critical global strategic test partners, suppliers, and asset management strategies.

Plan and deliver Engine, Powertrain testing for North American Programs, including regional requirements

  • Ensure completion of all engine & powertrain testing to meet program milestones.

  • Work seamlessly with program teams and Design and Release functional groups to deliver high quality test data in support of robust product development.

  • Ensure technical (test) alignment with all Corporate, State, and Federal Regulations.

  • Maintain relationships with Fordland, IT, Purchasing and Finance to ensure operations meet cost, quality and timing objectives.

  • Ensure all facility safeguards and safe operating practices are adhered to in order to protect the Health and Safety of all employees and visitors.

Overall operations and facility responsibility for the Dyno Building, Automatic Transmission Development Lab (ATDL), Advanced Engineering Center (AEC) Lab, Gas Turbine Lab (GTL) & Research Innovation Center (RIC) Dynamometer cells / Component Lab

  • Manage facility operations (24x7), test capability and capacity to meet customer demand and expectations with given budget and resource constraints.

  • Leverage technical knowledge of facility infrastructure, equipment, test systems to strengthen its integration.

  • Lead the development and implementation of infrastructure / facility-based efficiency actions.

  • Develop / manage the non-product capital forecast and spending to address product needs, implement automation, obsolescence and incorporate game-changing technologies.

  • Lead engineering actions that are necessary to meet corporate EQO and regulatory agency requirements.

  • Lead integrated process and facility maintenance requirements with Ford Land (UAW) Trades.

Financial and Operations Management

  • Manage operating budget for PVTL, lead for:

  • ELD

  • ATDL

  • AEC

  • Manage Global Powertrain Capital Investment Portfolio

  • Lead for NA Powertrain

  • Manage 300+ resources (200+ base employees, 100+ purchased services.

  • Develop optimized business models for utilization, consolidation, and integration.

  • Manage resources including staffing, funding, training, and career development.

  • Establish facility policy/practices and process disciplines that deliver department objectives, commitments to functional partners, & continuous operations improvement.

  • Develop strong relationships through leadership and partnership experience with functional teams and Hourly (UAW-represented) workforce.

Ensure technical alignment with all Corporate, State and Federal Regulations

  • Support all EPA/CARB audits for the Dynamometer, ATDL and RIC Building.

  • Responsible for the development, validation & verification that Ford has met the governmental emissions requirements.

  • Responsible for all quarterly/annual compliance reports and quarterly roll-ups with Environmental Quality Office (EQO).

Critical Success Factors:

  • Facility management experience necessary to improve quality, safety and sustainability.

  • Global Testing Knowledge and experience to rationalize facilities across the globe (hardware, test operating systems, maintenance contracts, calibration).

  • Specific Powertrain Testing Experience (Scheduling, capability, capacity, flexibility, critical milestones, program health charts).

  • Experience in developing/sustaining all critical operating metrics in managing all elements of the Powertrain Test Labs.

  • Experience managing and developing a diverse and inclusive (test organization) team.

Experience and Background Skills Desired: (List essential, highly desirable traits).

  • Broad Product Development Operations / Engineering / Test experience.

  • Deep understanding of the infrastructure dependencies and compliance regulations.

  • Strong understanding of key program milestones and ability to meet aggressive timing plans.

  • Prior Project Management Experience.

  • Engineering, business and commercial experience.

  • Strong oral and written skills for presentations to Sr. Management.

  • Ability to manage high-complexity in diverse situations.

  • Prior experience working with suppliers.

  • Heavy focus on non-product operating structures (Finance, IT, Purchasing, Fordland)

You'll have...

• Bachelor of Science in Engineer

• Must have prior experience in calibrating and / or, testing Internal Combustion (ICE) and xHEV engines

• Broad Product Development Operations / Engineering / Test experience.

• Deep understanding of the infrastructure dependencies and compliance regulations.

• Strong understanding of key program milestones and ability to meet aggressive timing plans.

• Prior Project Management Experience.

• Engineering, business and commercial experience.

• Strong oral and written skills for presentations to Sr. Management.

• Ability to manage high-complexity in diverse situations.

• Prior experience working with suppliers.

• Heavy focus on non-product operating structures (Finance, IT, Purchasing, Fordland)
