The global Automotive Safety Office is responsible for establishing policies, strategies and providing independent oversight to ensure vehicle compliance, enhance real world safety and protect the corporate reputation.

In this position...

You will be directly supporting the Chief Program Engineer to assess and validate designs for safety and compliance and will work closely with program management, hardware, software and features engineering teams to deliver safety strategy and ensure product compliance throughout the development cycle, product launch phase and on-going change management.

What you'll do...

  • Single point of contact for the program in assessing and assuring product safety.

  • Develop and maintain Compliance Strategy Templates for pre-production programs to support program milestone health chart reviews.

  • Ensure product content for safety strategy and compliance is included and approved in program financials.

  • Deliver on-going training to Chief Program Engineers, Program Management teams, Hardware, Software and Features Engineering teams to promote a strong safety culture throughout the enterprise.

  • Directly support the Chief Program Engineer in Design Reviews and key decision forums to assess potential impacts to compliance.

  • Provide critical input in the development of Product Direction Letters to ensure regulatory and compliance complexities are understood and communicated appropriately

  • Transform current Product Direction Letters release processes to reduce errors, improve efficiency and manage complexity

  • Track delivery of program Failure Mode Avoidance deliverables including Compliance Demonstration Plans and Reports with cross-functional collaboration between hardware, software and features engineering teams

  • Engage with Voice of the Customer Fleet during program development, and leverage the opportunity to conduct Compliance Audits

  • Provide launch support for programs through in-plant Fresh Eyes Reviews of vehicles

  • Lead process improvements and ensure Prevent Action Closure remedies are properly communicated and incorporated into programs

  • Coordinate Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard compliance audit testing across functions, including acquiring vehicles, tracking progress and supporting execution

  • Support cascade and delivery of safety and compliance regulatory requirements that span across software, hardware and features; work across programs to drive clarity of requirement ownership where it is unclear

  • Responsible for ensuring that post-Final Engineering Completion changes are fully documented.

You'll have...

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

Even better, you may have...

• Strong basis of understanding of Ford’s processes (technology development, product development, design validation and verification, vehicle operations and potential defect investigations)

• Positive problem-solving attitude and conflict resolution skills

• Ability to collaborate and connect cross-functionally to implement transformative process improvements

• Strong communication and cross-functional networking skills

• Strong decision making skills and resolve to raise issues to the right people at the right time

• Ability to critically evaluate data to make key decisions
