Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Plans, administers and manages an organization properly structured, trained, and motivated to meet the Department objectives for superior performance in safety, train reliability, and shop craft productivity while ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies governing the work.

Principal Duties:

• Ensures efficient inspection and repairs of freight cars and intermodal equipment at the assigned locations in accordance with NS Mechanical Department policies and government regulations.

• Ensures maximum utilization and control of corporate resources within budgetary limits.

• Resolves grievances, time claims, discipline problems, differences in interpretation of agreements, and conflicts between crafts regarding jurisdiction of work.

• Recommends the purchase of equipment and the modification of existing facilities for attaining quality, efficiency, and production goals.

• Supports the terminal train plan at the division level.

• Maintains professional relationships with local craft representatives.

• Assists in the employment of qualified personnel for all crafts, fulfilling EEO requirements, administering agreements, training student mechanics, and recommending candidates for promotions to supervisors.

Job Related Experience:

Minimum Level: 6-10 years Preferred Level: 11-15 years
