Prestress Services Industries Laborer in Decatur, Indiana

Summary The bed laborer performs tasks involving physical labor at plant. The position may operate a variety of hand and power tools and is an essential component of the beam making process. The position may assist other workers.

Wages: $20/hr starting $20.25 @ 60 days $20.50 @ 180 days $21 @ 1 yr

After 60 days and no accidents, candidates will get a $500 sign on bonus and 40 hrs of vacation.

  • Performs any combination of following duties involved in preparing forms and pouring concrete to make prestressed structural beams.
  • Cleans forms, using hammer, scraper, and brush and sprays form with oil to prevent adhesion of concrete.
  • Places reinforcing steel cage in form, using power winch.
  • Pushes stressing cables through form, threads end through guide holes in end plates, and clamps end of cables to plate.
  • Tightens nuts at base of form with power wrench, and inserts spacer bars and locking pins at intervals along top of form to maintain specified dimensions of form.
  • Clamps vibrators in holders on sides of forms.
  • Lays planks on protruding ends of spacer bars to make elevated walkway on both sides of form.
  • Utilizes conveyors and vibrators.
  • Shovels sample of concrete into canisters and tests consistency of concrete, using cone-shaped mold and trowel.
  • Settles concrete at top of form with hand vibrator, and fills low spots with concrete taken from conveyor.
  • Removes forms from cured beams, using hand tools, and cuts protruding end of stressing cable, using oxyacetylene torch.
  • Lifts beam and moves hoist to yarding area by hand or with truck.
  • May prepare forms and cast concrete lintels.
  • Attends all safety meetings to gain a broader understanding of safety issues that will assist in maintaining a safe working environment.

Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.

Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position lifts heavy objects (up to 50lbs), walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively jumps, sprints or throws objects. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 40 hours per week. This position may require longer hours and weekend work, depending on b
