Job Description:We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at Decorah Middle School. At this time, the successful candidate will work primarily with 7th and 8th-grade students, providing support in math instruction and helping students achieve their academic and behavioral goals.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with general education teachers to co-teach math classes and differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Provide direct instruction and support to students with math and behavior goals, both in inclusive settings and in small group or one-on-one settings as needed.
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students, including setting goals, selecting appropriate instructional strategies, and monitoring progress.
- Utilize evidence-based instructional practices and interventions to support students in mastering math concepts and improving behavior.
- Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction and interventions as needed.
- Collaborate with parents/guardians, other special education staff, and support personnel to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive approach to supporting students' academic and social-emotional needs.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of student progress, including IEPs, progress reports, and behavior logs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education with 5-12 Instructional Strategist I: Mild/Moderate Special Education endorsement
- Experience working with middle school-aged students with diverse learning needs, particularly in math instruction and behavior support.
- Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and provide accommodations and modifications to meet the individual needs of students.
- Patience, empathy, and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
